So I just had lunch with my family and as we got refills of coke, the waitress told us to swap our straw into the new cup to save the sea turtles.

A couple questions entered my mind..

1) How does a straw thrown away in Ohio enter the ocean to kill a sea turtle? Wouldn’t it go the trash can then to the landfill? If anyone can logistically get my thrown away straw to a sea turtle I just would like that explained to me lol

2). If my straw is going to an ocean to kill a sea turtle then why give me one at all? Is 1 sea turtle killing per visit via straw fine, but let’s not get carried away and be responsible for 2-3?

Starbucks is getting rid of straws to save the ocean. I asked the manager when it goes into effect.
Him: "When we run out of inventory already purchased."
Me: "What are you gonna do with Parkinson's customers who need a straw?"
Him: 'There will be cups with built in straws'.
Me: "But that's plastic."
Him: 'Yep. It's a really stupid idea."

I'm guessing the owners of the PaperStraw outlet.

As has been pointed out in numerous threads: like 90 percent of the ocean trash comes from 3 rivers in Asia. Cutting out straws in Cleveland or Seattle is irrelevant.

It’s funny that we focus on bullshite like climate change as a problem when there are actual, real issues that need to be addressed.

Dumping shitloads of garbage in the ocean is one of these. Having huge masses of garbage in the ocean is not good. The straw shite is stupid...but there are a number of real environmental issues hanging out there just ripe for conservatives to adopt.

Not that we’d get any credit for doing it.

yep Asia is polluting and trashing their asses off but liberals couldn’t care less. Everything is the big bad USA’s fault even though it isn’t

The video is just awful for what gets into the water. But it seems like this would be an easy PR situation for a group like Greenpeace to come in and clean up a large "semi contained" area of crap in the sea instead of trying to ram a whaling ship or throwing paint on some lady's mink.

We had a property off highland with a bayou running through the back end. Log/debris jams would pile trash up in surprisingly large amounts. We would clean it up when it got that way, but the Sierra Club tried to keep us from doing it. We never stopped cleaning it, but it was nuts to see those purported environmentalists try to block actual cleanup of the environment.

I hate these dumb straw bans, but why couldn't you just use the same straw?

WTF was the reasoning behind that?

I assume you're talking about Bayou Fountain
