quote:it may have the least amount of parity of any sport but that doesn't mean there isn't more parity today. If you talk with players they will tell you that there is not a lot of difference between the ones and twos. It's the lack of depth that will get you beat, but what do players know?
College football has the least amount of parity of probably any sport.

Fair or not that's how it is. If you believe O and the coaches had no fault in the Troy game then you're being naive.
(sigh) Alas....another poster who doesn't bother to read what I posted previously.
EQUAL BLAME....equal....the same....equivalent....commensurate....egalitarian.
No loss is clearly on one entity or the other. I've have conceded that the game plan and offensive meddling was clearly on O. What else do you want?

9-4 overall
I believe There have been 11 teams since 2000 who have done better
6-2 is great in the weakest SEC in a decade.
But we also played 5 other games, and guess what, they counted
We regressed to losing to Sunbelt teams.

We lost A game....singular. We rebounded and played much better the last part of the season (sans Bama).
This does not constitute full out regression....but to each his own.

The man that got drafted by the patriots sucked

And we finished 3-2 in our last five games.

Did we beat any SEC after Troy?
If so, then we did not regress after the Troy loss. SEC teams are generally better than Troy....at least thats what you all are saying. Regression also implies a long term or at least sustained pattern for a number of games.
We beat some SEC after Troy. So you can't really make a logical argument that the team regressed after this loss.
Now....you can CLEARLY see a pattern of regression after Bama losses under Les in a few of his last years.

I saw it as the perfect storm of player nonchalance and disinterest combined with REALLY bad front 7 play. An anomaly- the kind of egg LSU lays every half decade or so. I’m over it. Troy deserved the win and the subsequent shite talk .

IM a strong proponent that players are ultimately responsible for game outcomes.... not coaches.
That seems to be a real sore spot for some posters here.
God forbid a player fumble or throw an int or miss a kick or a tackle and they not be accountable for their own mistake that has a direct fricking impact on the game.

quote:This is that Tiger ego/attitude at work. The answer is not necessarily as we discovered. If a player does not know the playbook well enough because it is early in the season and they didn't expect to play much then they will be out of position, go the wrong way, etc. The player's attitude has a lot to do with it also. If you think the game is won before you kickoff then you will be casual about your job and not put out maximum effort. Hell that is why we lost Miss St. Look at that game again. Miss St. is as fired up as a team and a crowd can be. We look like robots with no energy in comparison.
On any given day, don’t you think all 2nd/3rd team backups at LSU should beat any team at Troy.

Watching Troy's qb walk around the end, that Arden key was defending, for a touchdown was all that you need to see.
Arden Key could not contain a big slow qb. It shows how bad the dl was depleted and was playing at half speed.
As far as the offense, frick Canada. He was NOT prepared and Troy was to short on talent to worry about all the gimmicks. They played straight up and Canada refused to just pound them.
He was gonna be replaced starting that day.
Troy was a hood thing for LSU, in a bad way

Regression can either apply to a season on the whole or to a part of the season. We started the season three and two and we ended the season three and two. Therefore, we certainly regressed for this season on the whole since we had our worst overall record since 2014 while playing our weakest SOS in 20 yrs.
This Troy BS is mind blowing. Even being short handed a few players there is absolutely no excuse for LSU to go down 17 to nothing with five minutes to go in the third quarter. Is absolutely no excuse for LSU to be held score less in the first 15 mins or 1st 30 mins.
LSU as a team is so much more talented than Troy was as a team that we should be ashamed to even use such weak arse BS.
The team, for what ever reason, was not prepared to play Troy. That falls directly on your coaching staff.

But a football game has over 100 plays. So the overall outcome of a game shouldn't be blamed on an isolated blunder by a player here or there. It's ALL on the coaches. It's THEIR responsibility to game plan, motivate, adjust in-game. They're paid huge money - and it's on them.
Just like a CEO is held accountable for a company's performance, and a teacher is responsible for their students' test score, etc. The leader of ANY organization is held responsible for final results.

I couldn't agree more. It's crazy the lengths that people will go to in order to make excuses for this guy. I'm not ready to give up on him just yet, but to make assertions like it's the players' fault for x, y and z is ridiculous. It's the coaches' responsibility to make sure the players are ready to play and that goes for every coach at every level of amateur sports. There's a reason that explayers that are now analysts say that well coached teams don't beat themselves. This isn't something unique to Coach O and doesn't mean people are hating on him or not giving him a chance.

At some point the players need to be responsible for their play or lack thereof.
Missed fg's, stupid penalties, turnovers & missed tackles are on the players!
I'm not a huge coach O fan, but the sky is not falling!
The Chicken Littles on this board are a beautiful example of the catastrophe syndrome Saban saw when he was here.
And the O haters will not be satisfied til O is gone. Then they'll dazzle us with their limitless syndrome affect in attacking O's replacement til he's gone too.
Jeez the syndrome people need to take a couple chill pills! Seriously.

Then I guess it was the players that won the AU game, not O.
You can’t give him credit for wins but no blame for losses.
