For the itching, before you go to bed, take a hot shower. As hot as you can stand for as long as you can.
The heat draws out the histamine. This will allow you to get a good nights sleep.

Best way to get rid of it take a hot bath in bleach. After you get out put whatever ointment you have. Bleach works the best.

Then move to SoCal, there isn't any there
That was a clue in a Columbo episode. The killer had poison ivy, proving he'd been out of town

When I was younger and more likely to get it, Tecnu worked really well for me.

Zanfel is the correct answer.

Zanfel works and also Mean Green power scrub for a fraction of the cost.
It draws the urushiol out of the skin.

No personal experience, but I've heard bentonite clay might help. There's a couple of main types: sodium bentonite and calciu bentonite. Not sure which one might work better.
They are supposed to be highly absorptive of toxins on/under the skin.

You have to get it pretty early on though, like within a few days of breaking out.

Steroid shot
I get it once or twice a year and this year is the first time I've tried the steroid shot. Normally would just power through it. But I got relief within a couple of hours of the shot. Will never not get the shot again.

You mean like to get rid of the plant? Or to treat a reaction? Tecnu makes some good over-the-counter washes or rubs that sweep away the oils that cause the reactions. It's always worked like a champ for me.

dial soap in the shower. Anytime I know I touch it I bring the blue dial soap in the shower and wash myself over and over again. It's effective within an hour or 2 of being exposed. I'm highly allergic.

I'm one of those fortunate ones that are not allergic to it, so I've never had to deal with it.
When I was a kid I would fish along the Miss. River and it was way before the levee looks like it does now with all that cement sheeting. There were wooden bulkhead walls all over the place and poison ivy would grow along those walls. I use to toss out my line and lay back on those bulkheads with poison ivy all around and never was affected by it.

I get it really bad too. I put a baking soda paste over it and cover it with a bandage for a day or two and it dries it right up.

Baking soda and vinegar as a paste, it's messy but will get rid of poison ivy in a day. Just keep applying it as it dries up the blisters.

So Cal has poison oak though.
Try Benedryl.

Sand paper will remove poison ivy. Just scuff off 3 or 4 layers of skin and you should be good to go.

Not reading through 4 pages, so this has probably already been mentioned. If you think you’ve come into contact with it, scrub down with dawn as soon as you can. The oil from the plant is what causes the reaction, and dawn is good at removing any oily substance.
