I've always just played with friends. I'm an 10 handicap.

Played in a tourney last year, and my friends were talking about how much cheating goes on at these things. I hate cheating about as much as anything. Just a pet peeve of mine. My team did absolutely no cheating. I did win the long drive hole though.

Just wondering if any of you guys have come up against cheaters or catch people cheating.

Sandbaggers abound in golf. It's sad really.

I wonder if anyone from the BR Open will chime in...

In scrambles, it’s a given that teams are going to cheat. It really sucks. I don’t even try to win anymore. Just enjoy time with your team and try to make some good shots. I use it a practice time. Let the whole team hit and if there is a good one, try that trap knockdown wedge shot or the bump and run.

Before the round look for the fattest, drunkest a-hole with the worst swing, he will usually win the long drive before it even begins.

I’ve never played in a scramble and expected to win no matter how good the group I’m playing with is. I played behind a group of 4 guys who hacked it up and down Lakewood for a scramble and they wrote down -18. It just is what it is.

There’s a special place in hell for people that cheat and charity scrambles…

Some of them have gone to a play off method where everyone watches. Magically one of the teams that finished -19 bogeys the first playoff hole

I've played in close to 50 scrambles in the past... never once have I ever had the desire to cheat, nor have I witnessed any of my teammates attempt it... however, when you see a team of stacked players finish four strokes back to some guys you watched duff it around in the group ahead of you all day... you know it happens.

I am not a big hitter so the long drive doesn't really matter to me, but I have hit balls on the "straightest drive" holes that were inches off the painted center line, and lost to a player behind me. I've had closest to the holes inside three feet that magically don't win because the final group put one two feet and eleven inches. This is where I see a large majority of it.

In scrambles....if you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying.

Last one I played, we probably fudged 2-3 strokes and still lost to someone who turned in a 43.

We got accused of it once by the team that finished 2nd. Had 4 really good players and we shot 23 under to win by a shot.

Played the same team in the regional qualifying for the 4 man scramble National title later that same year, with scorekeepers and shot 19 under on a harder course and missed a 15 footer on the last hole that would have put us in a playoff with that team who went on and won the nationals.

Some guys can just flat play. I will say though I hit a drive on a par 5 once at Haleyville CC playing in a scramble there and had a 60 wedge into the green.

That supposedly got beat by a guy who I doubt could have hit it twice and had I go that far. So I just won it back from that guy with a nice extra bonus playing for money a couple years later.

He thought he was good, he wasn’t

About five years ago, my group lost out on a 2.5k kitty that had been building up for several weeks. We were under par every hole and one of our group hit a hole in one, we still lost to a group who couldn’t beat any of us one on one. I cussed out the pro for allowing them to get away with blatant cheating and haven’t played that course or a scramble since.

A group of truck nut baws walk in with a 48. Once they posted the score, none of them stayed because they knew it was BS.

Our group, with all 0-2 handicaps and one is a ranked amateur player shot 51 (2nd place and 2 shots in front of 3rd)

I used to play in scrambles, and some of the teams wouldn't fill out their scorecards until they saw the leaderboard!

Played in a charity scramble they used to have around here for scholarship endowment. Shot 19 under. One par and two eagles, the rest birdies. One eagle was a 40 yd chip in on par 4. Was one of those days were we couldn't miss. Also had a senior on our team and several holes he had a distinct advantage. Figure we would walk. Won by one shot. I have played in probably hundred scrambles over my lifetime. And some scrambles had a stacked team and never shot that low. The 19 under team was two A-,B and one D player.

Charity scrambles have turned into 'last man in wins' it seems. Blows my mind that people will cheat to win a soft sided cooler and some Hooter's gift cards.

The price of a man's integrity is much lower than it used to be.
