T-Alley: I’m not an experienced runner compared to most in this thread but I’ve done this plan for half marathon previously. I liked the 3 runs per week schedule, but I’m probably in the minority there. I have the book if you want to know more about the plan.

That’s my schedule now so I’d love to use that to train for a marathon. I’m not super concerned about my finish time though so as long as I build my miles up I think I’ll be fine.

I am very interested in the formatting because I've gotten into biking so much and I don't want to give it yet.

Can y'all tell me about your two cross-training days? What did y'all do? How was the intensity?

Honestly I did not follow the cross training as well as I should have, in retrospect. I was still going to the gym and lifting weights MWF, in addition to the Tu, Th, Sat runs. There were some days I would throw in some cycling tho, and I kept this pretty low intensity. From an FTP standpoint, I would say I averaged about 60% of my FTP on those rides.

Just had a checkup and my RHR is down to around 54 from 60 about 6 months ago. The fitness is slowly but surely coming back

Y’all, I know I’m being a baby, but I cannot deal well with this heat. My HR is through the roof and I’m dead not even completing workouts that should be relatively easy in cool weather.

Lol it’s hot as shite, man. Just went for a lunch run and it felt like 102.

I haven’t run more than 5 miles in a while. Been keeping it at 2-3 for tempo/VO2 max and 4-5 for easy/aerobic runs.

That's pretty much all it is. I took the advice here and ran a loop so I could pour cold water on myself and it helped a little. But it boils down to being hot as shite.

Anyone here experience any restless leg stuff leading into bedtime? Been happening a bit and not sure if it’s running related or what.

Actually last night I had restless leg issues but I've been running a lot more than normal the last two weeks and sweating like crazy. I'm wondering if I am just low on potassium.

Yeah I’m in the same spot. My PT has me monitoring morning HR to check recovery first and map on the nights when it happens to my mileage. She thinks I may need more salt so we may add that in depending on what we find the next few weeks. Weird sensation.

What are you supposed to do in-between the sprint segments? Jog until it's time to start again? Stop altogether?

I'm in the middle of some hard bike training and have really enjoyed Tailwinds recovery drink. It has protein, carbs, and an electrolyte solution.

They say you can either jog or walk. I typically walk for a bit in between intervals (400m or so?) just to get my HR back down to a reasonable rate. FWIW, I reeeeeally enjoy their speed/interval workouts

Are the tempo runs "true" tempo runs, in that the first third is very slow, the middle third is very fast, and the final third is very slow?

I can check when I get home, but pretty sure the tempo runs consist of a 10-15 min warm up, X # of miles at tempo (can be short, medium, or long tempo pace), and a 10 min cool down

You bet

So the tempo runs consist of 1 or 2 miles easy, x # miles @ ST/MT/LT pace, and 1 mile easy to finish.

If you want, I can email you anything out of the book you want. Like the track repeats, tempo run, long run info along with prescribed pacing for whatever goal time you choose.

Can you e-mail me the prescribed pacing for a 9:09/mi, 4 hr marathon?

Are there any fast/sprint workouts where you are told to specifically run or jog between the sprints?

can you tell me whether the book more closely resembles the plan in article oneor article two?

Thank you
