Back from vacation and a relatively easy week running. Plan for the week is mostly easy runs with a medium-long run on Wednesday and Long Run on Sunday. First time putting in 10-12 mi mid week followed by 16-18 on the weekend. Wednesday work is 8-10 alternating miles between 105% GMP and 90% GMP with a WU and CD.

My hip seems to be getting better. I've been using a collagen supplement for a little over a week now. I don't know if that is actually helping or if it is just taking a long time to improve. I just hope it continues, and I am glad that I didn't quite running while waiting on it to heal. I'll at least have a solid base to work with when it is 80% or better.

3 up 9 mile progression tempo from steady state to 5k pace. 15.4 total in 1:35. That 15k came in at 51:13.

It was so gross out that I was pinging my max HR for 4 miles apparently, lol. Kept my form though so injury wasn't a concern and I wasn't straining. FML

Edit: looking at the splits my times were 51:13 15k, 33:33 10k, 16:24 5k

Edit 2: Looks like the web bulb temp was 81

And that's during his tempo run. I suggested he set goal for 30 min but he didn't bite. Said maybe 32 min was achievable.

You can crack 40 min!

HR numbers kill me. I did hills and fartleks last week. I hit 194HR on one of my 1/4 mile fartleks after running up hill. My pace was in the 6/min range. Very impressive.

Thanks, y’all. The kind words really mean a lot to me. I plugged in the temperature adjusted paces and it was unbelievable. Like literally, I didn’t believe it. I’m not in high 14s shape. But this was one of my better workouts probably ever. Not bad for 40.

Hell, I was feeling so proud that I almost made this run public. Almost.

Going to the cardiologist Sept 2nd. In the three years since I started running, my max HR seems to have climbed from 184 to 194. Need to make sure that's correct.

Ditched the MAF calculations after a couple of weeks. Too slow and pissing me off. Doing 140 HR on cross training days, 160 HR on regular days, and letting it rip on Thursdays.

Damn Burt, get it.

Alternating miles this morning as mentioned. Moved them from Wed to Thurs due to some stomach issues Tuesday night. Heat was just unbearable this morning. 82F, Humidity @ 90%, and feels like 88F at 4:30 am. I was drenched two miles in and ran out of water by mile 7.

9 miles this AM. Most for me in 30 days and this stupid plantar fasciitis. Still a little twingey. Stretching and calf raising every day of the week. Average HR 159 which translated into 10:40 min miles. Not Burt numbers by any means…..

“Ran” the Pikes Peak Ascent today, and my flatlander arse blew the frick up above the tree line. I was pretty comfortable hiking/running up until about 12 000’, but it went way downhill after that. My finish position was pretty much the same as my seed, and I still finished well within the cutoff, so I guess I did as expected - but it doesn’t feel nice.

Weather in the 2nd half was pretty bad too - 30s and windy at the top with some snow that thankfully moved on (some SAR folks were talking about turning people around at the tree line).

Ran this morning at 6:30 and the heat index was already 90 degrees. I'm getting back into running but have stayed pretty fit doing weight lifting and other forms of cardio. I got a Garmin 245 recently that I'm really enjoying. I'm connecting my chest strap to it to see what zones I fall in on my runs but it's pretty tough to interpret anything with the heat being what it is. Does anyone use the heart rate reserve formula to determine zones as opposed to a pure % of max heart rate approach? I have a pretty low resting heart rate (currently 52) and a pretty high max heart rate (around 203) at 31 years old. I'm wondering if perhaps the HRR formula might be a better method to set my zones by.

No, but I'm curious about this approach. I like HR better than pace as a measure of performance.
