Can't feel sorry for you having to take customers out on the company dime in freakin' South Padre! And here you are worrying about getting your runs in. I'd be doing the same, we are a different breed.

Did 5 this afternoon when I got home from work. 88 degrees and miserable. Looks like it’ll break 90 next week won’t be long before I’ll be trying to make excuses to not get the miles in.

fricked around and set a PR at the BK Half. 1:45:56. Crapped out hard after 15k too. That was due to lack of training from the knee injury. It held up super well though so I’m pleased. Lots of room for improvement.

Good job man. 15k seems to be my consistent bonk area. I’m trying to get an 8-10 miler every week to see if I can prolong that past the half range.

Normally I hit the longer distances hard when training and I steadily improve my pace throughout the race on race day but the lack of longer distance training definitely is what killed me. So hopefully that helps you get through that wall too.

That was a pretty good week of running. My body is adjusting to the heat nicely. I'm seeing a lot to be positive about this summer. Looking for some breakthroughs this fall so I hope this feeling keeps up. Good runs this weekend y'all!

Great to hear for BRM + it's a good lesson for new runners to see you "fail your training" and come back strong. This sport is much more about consistency than I figured.
For me , I love the advice given about using official races to get better if it matches your training plan.
From yesterday, here are three things I will attack for my October PR attempt ( 1:53 ??)
1. Focus more on mile 10 + & work in some long runs where I finish faster..there is a 7 race series here in Texas with 10 milers I will sign up for.
2. Refocusing on strength and ab training ...the elevation surprised me (508 total rise ) and my entire body felt weak towards the end.
3. I found myself "shuffling" and not running towards the end..I didn't realize it , would focus on my normal stride , then find myself shuffling again ..I'll have to figure that out, no clue why I lost my running stride.

I like your goals and it sounds like you’re getting excited about your goals. I was exactly where you were one year ago. About the same times and everything. Just gotta put in the work and keep grinding.
Nothing special about what I’m doing except consistency and a healthy work ethic.
By the way, is everyone ready to cheer HB this weekend. Let’s see the sub three HB! Looking forward to seeing those results!

Just try your hardest and trust your training. Can’t do anymore than that.

Got my wife into the Strava Group, she’s easing back into it after having our son in October.

Send a welcome to Mrs. Roots for us.
HB, good luck man. And try not to work so hard

HB better crush it. I have personally invested a lot of time and effort giving dozens of thumbs up to his ridiculous training runs on Strava.

Thought I may be working toward heat acclimation but a tempo run in 109 feels like says nah. Just frickin foul.
And 14 mph winds to boot. Has me wondering if I have any fitness at all.

I’ve been reading up on the Kenyan tempo/progression approach of just going by feel and not pace. Gonna try to do this more. That was the plan yesterday until I started frying from the inside out. Also with it being a race week, didn’t wanna push too hard. Toward the end, I focused on form under stress/fatigue, which I want to do more of also.

That sounds like the type of plan that HB is using/doing (lots of tempos). Can’t do it myself, I need more variety. My body breaks down from overtraining if I don’t mix it up a little with fartleks and speed.

I'm finding that I'm not really bothered by the heat, humidity, and wind right now which really surprised me. 88 today humid and windy AF. Didn't really bother me like last year and it's not going to get much hotter. Maybe 5 more degrees during peak summer on average. I am in much better shape though. This time last year I still couldn't break a 20 min 5K.
