Marcello’s BR review

Wife and I went to Marcellos in BR last night. Let me just say that based on the experience we had, which was our first, this is one of the better restaurants in the city. Everything we had was spot on. The food was served very hot without much wait, despite the relative large crowd in the restaurant. The wine was served at perfect temps, which is a pet peeve of mine.
Here’s what we had...
Antipasto Board - delicious combo of meats and cheeses, which were presented beautifully. I regret not asking the server which cheeses they were. Meat was salami and prosciutto.
Beef and mushroom carpaccio - very good carpaccio but was missing an acid. I suggest arugula tossed with a good balsamic on the side. Perhaps the best carpaccio dish in the city, even beating out Ruth’s, which I almost always order.
We split the main course named Molli, which was floured veal scaloppini, basil artichokes, lemon butter, Capers & Linguini aglio.
We were expecting this dish to be similar to the lemon butter capers dish at DiGuilios. The wife’s first impression was that it was good, but not better than DiGulios. It didn’t taste very similar either. However, the more she dug in the more she appreciated the Marcellos version. By the end of our dinner she admitted that she was wrong. She enjoyed this dish, moreso than our overpass counterpart. I thought it was perfection from the first bite.
Lagniappe*
We asked for a single meatball rustica with their traditional red gravy. We wanted just a taste and not the entire dish. The full order comes with two, so I was skeptical that they would allow me to order as I did. They complied happily without hesitation and the meatball and gravy was delicious.
Strongly recommend giving it a go. Apologies for the long post but wanted to throw credit to a restaurant well done.

Nice review. I very much enjoyed the two times I went to the one in Nola.

I used to like the one in Metairie. I am surprised they closed because they were always packed.

It was on my list in the top 5 thread. I think it’s hands down one of the best places in town.
I got the Pork Cheek Stracci last time, and it was fantastic. Their lasagna is great too.

Wife & I went about a month ago. Place was packed but service was great. We did the Nashville style calimari for an app, never had it that way but it was good.
I got the veal Parmesan and she had the chicken Palermo. She made 2 meals out of hers, both were great.

It is a cut above most other places in BR. It is not a "Sysco shop" and the owner is hands on. The chef is young and has a bright future IMO.

Rent was too high.

Yep and the lease term was up for renewal.

Went to the one in Metairie twice, both times against my will.
You would have had to pay me to go a third time. Menu full of overpriced and underwhelming food.

Have you dined at the one on St. Charles?

Food and service there are both very good.

Texas Land and Cattle bought them out for the location.

They should have told you this without you prompting them.

LOL, I love the novices on here that see a Sysco truck in front of a restaurant and trash the place.

Does Marcello's BR have the same owners as Marcello's Wine Market Café in Lafayette, on Kaliste Saloom?

Yes, and New Orleans.

Do you know they probably use Sysco?
If not one of their competitors or a combination of food providers that all provide the same service.

Oh come on, y’all know what he meant. He meant they’re not buying premade desserts or food items. Nobody cares where they buy their straws.

Ehh. People might be surprised by the “high end” BR and NO restaurants buying soups and desserts from Sysco and (for a few restaurants) doctoring them up a little.

I think that was his point, that they’re not.
