Anyone remember the old Holidomes?

I remember when I was very little there was nothing better than staying at the Holidome. By that time they were phasing them out, rarely using the name anymore, and were well past their glory days, but anytime we traveled I'd beg my parents to stay at one.
If I'm not mistaken, the Holiday Inn on Airline by I-12 used to be one even though they don't use the name anymore.

I remember going to the one in Navarre Beach back in the 70's.

Yep. If I recall correctly, there was one near the airport (NOLA) that we'd stay at when we would pick my grandfather up.

Was a big fan of swimming inside to outside.

Same here. Also... that was where they filmed much of Jaws 2.

As a small child, I got such a kick out of swimming under the plastic drapes between the inside and outside of the pool. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

That’s funny you say that. The whole reason I was thinking about this was because I was watching Jaws 2 last night and reading some trivia about it today. They filmed the hotel grand opening scene at the one in Navarre Beach.
RIP due to Ivan.

Travel ball teams would wreck those places today!
I think the one on Airline in Baton Rouge added the holidome way back in the 80's

The holiday inn at the airport in Des Moines is a holidome. Stayed there last year.

They also used Captain Dave's and The Hog's Breath (both destroyed by Opal and moved to where they are now).

Always begged to stay there. There’s a Holiday Inn in Shreveport that still has the pool you swim under the wall to go out like them.

Great Wolf Lodge has a very similar concept. It's all super cheesy now that I"m older but being a kid it was a blast.

Still a Holiday Inn near the corner of Veterans Highway and Williams Boulevard, right by I-10.

I thought there was one in destin too?

I’ve other wondered what led to the demise of the holidome concept?

My first job brought me back to NELA every six weeks. I always stayed out there when I came over. It was the best place to stay, even though it was, and still is, a terrible neighborhood. The bar had the old BOGO happy hour, and backgammon boards, back when everyone played backgammon.
