Why do Vans have a bad reputation, but SUVs are practically the same thing

I have noticed this casually when speaking to people who own an SUV.

It has approximately 5 or 6 places to sit. You have more space in the trunk than a car (usually less than a van).

Thoughts?

Unlike Southern, vans don't have a bad reputation. They just look ugly.

Vans are for those who can’t afford a milf mobile like a Yukon Denali or a QX 80

Maybe too many people watched "Silence Of The Lambs" and think all serial killers use vans to get their victims.

I enjoy some curb-hopping ability, towing capacity, and 4WD/AWD that can get me through a tough spot if I have to.

They aren't the same thing. SUVs were designed to be all-terrain vehicles (sport utility vehicles).

Minivans are for men who have given up on life.

We need to define what an SUV is. Tahoes, 4Runners, etc are real SUVs.

Honda Pilots and the like are not. The 2WD Pilot has the same towing capacity as the Honda Odyssey mini-van.

Maybe, but the vast majority have never been off asphalt. Practically, they replaced station wagons. They're necessary for hauling around hamplanets.

Maybe 20 years ago.

Today SUVs are just minivans with bigger tires and a bigger price tag.

Unless you are talking about a Jeep or Rover.

Ain't nobody taking their QXwhatever or Tahoe off road.
