How much is luck attributed to a championship run?

When looking at this upcoming season, I feel like if we have a fair degree of luck in the close ones, we can win 10+ games.

During a true championship run, winning 13-14 games has to require some significant good fortune.

What are some teams you can think of that won championships that were good but also just flat out lucky?

About tree fiddy.

Actually, a decent bit. A ball that bounces your way on a fumble to change momentum in the big game, a botched call or no call in a crucial moment, changing the game and thus the season. Some completely different team winning or losing. Random injuries.

However, the more and better you prepare, oddly enough, the more luck seems to be on your side.

Ed Orgeron winning a championship would be equivalent to someone winning the lottery 5 times in a row without ever buying a ticket.

It is better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Seriously, I have my doubts about O but if you think the odds of winning the lottery 5 times in a row is equal to LSU winning a national title, you are a damn idiot.

God forbid I mention him, but it may have been Satan himself that said no championship team gets there without a certain amount of luck...and 60 minutes rabble rabble.

Two teams lost. One of which was an underdog and had already lost to the team they were playing.

Also LSU won a conference title game that weekend with their backup QB.

The 03 season was actually the year we needed multiple games to go a specific way in order for our SOS to jump USC’s and they all did, including ridiculous games involving teams like Hawaii, Syracuse, and Notre Dame

after the team that should have been in the game loses in a monumental upset despite a FG that would have won the game that appeared to be good actually being called no good. All just days after a plane crash struck their athletic department casting a shadow over the entire university that weekend.

And yes, every team that wins a championship without going undefeated needed luck to ensure they got back into the title game or CFP.

Hell, even USC and OU needed luck in 04 because Auburn was undefeated as well so the voters got to decide between the three.

Sounds like bad luck for one team and good luck for another...

During Clemson's NC season, NC State had them beat but the kicker choked on a mid-range FG at the final gun.

Every team that wins the NC has a few good breaks along the way. But a bad team won't luck their way into a NC.

Tenn was pretty fortunate to beat Syracuse the year they won the BCS title

And probably even more fortunate that Kansas State choked and blew a lead in the Big 12 title game against TAMU

OU Was fortunate the following year that Snoop wasn't playing for FSU but they likely win anyway

Ask the golden State warriors if luck is involved in a championship run. They benefited on their last 2 championships

I believe O could win a National Championship at LSU, but I give him about 12-1 odds. I think that's fair.

I dislike urban Meyer but I like this quote from him.

“Talent will get you about 8 wins, discipline will push that to 10, leadership is when the magic starts to happen and gets you to 13”

This quote is before the playoff so the numbers are now off but you get the point.

A lot.

Even bama has needed it at times.

tOSU had a nickname the luckeyes.

And usually you also have to avoid the injury bug, one bad game or one game you are missing a stud player, and your championship hopes are out the window.

It was good.

Bama was lucky to get to both games in 11 and 12, but did what they had to do when there. Same with LSU in 03 and 07.
