Leaving 3 minutes early is not good, but the 10 smoke breaks a day is fine.

A Japanese city official has been docked half a day's pay for repeatedly leaving his desk for a few minutes, sparking a heated debate on social media over the severity of the punishment.
The 64-year-old man, who has not been identified, is employed by the waterworks bureau in Kobe, according to bureau officials who gave a televised press conference last week to apologize for the employee's actions.

The man had left his desk for three minutes to buy a takeaway bento lunch box before his lunch time started. He did this 26 times over a seven-month period.
As a punishment, he was reprimanded and docked half a day's pay

"It is very regrettable that such misconduct took place," a bureau official said. "We deeply apologize for it."
All four officials at the press conference then stood and bowed deeply.

This must be where Dwight Shrute found a job after Dunder Mifflin closed its doors.

Meanwhile there are worthless shitbags sitting in government offices across Louisiana who have been there 20 years and maybe only done an hour of actual work during that time period.

Could be worse. 10 years ago he would have had to do the right thing.

Ain't limited to Louisiana.
Especially government jobs.

I mean, yeah, but I find all this Japanese work culture reprehensible and actually holds them back from ever truly becoming innovative

A recent survey found that 1 in 4 Japanese workers want to kill their boss.

In Japan, it's more about the appearance of doing something than actually doing something.
You get there before the boss and leave after the boss leaves. You could literally nap at your desk.
