Multiple sources saying Disney is changing direction on star wars in a big way.

Canceling the stand alone projects in development like Kenobi and Boba fett movies.

They won't use the property to try out unproven writers and directors any longer and are currently assessing the direction for the film franchise post episode 9

This aligns with recent rumors that Kennedy will be leaving Lucasfilm in Sept.

Currently the only projects for. Certain are IX, a new animated series called the resistance that Dave filoni is heading and a live action TV series by Jon Favreau.

They completely misread what happened with Solo. It wasn't about Solo at all

Disney should spend a few years re-evaluating.

Let the Star Wars Land, merchandising, video games, apps and animated series be the money makers while they re-set and give the general public a Star Wars break post IX.

Then, approach a few established, respected filmmakers about whether they would be interested in doing something in the Universe, take pitches, and take the best idea and run with it. Don't over do it. Only focus on ORIGINAL, NEW stories.

That would be the smartest approach LONG TERM.

But they probably won't since they have so much money invested.

Sounds like they still don't have a clue, the two standalone movies have been the best of the Disney efforts.

Damn you had my hopes up until I actually read the article

In addition to Episode IX, Lucasfilm has officially announced development on a new Star Wars trilogy focused on new characters from The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson, as well as a new series of films written by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. These projects continue to be in development and are not part of the paused spinoffs we’re hearing about.

Their best two movies were the standalone movies.

Boba fett movies.

Never understood the practicality of this.

He had like a total of 6 minutes of screen time in the original trilogy.

Why not Greedo? We can have a whole back story before he doesn't shoot first.

I'm sorry but I've never understood the fascination with him. I love Star Wars but have always felt he is massively overrated by the fanbase

I'm not a huge Star Wars guy, but a buddy of mine is a total fanatic. He's told me some info about the book material that deals with the Old Republic, and that all sounds SUPER interesting. I would love to see movies about Darth Bane, Revan, or Emperor Vitiate.

Would that source material be considered too dark for Disney? Idk, like I said, I'm a much more casual fan. It just seems like A LOT of the most interesting stories are from that time period.

The two stand-alone films have both been the best parts of Disney owned Star Wars. This doesn't make sense.
