i really don’t understand exactly why tipping is so difficult for people these days and why it’s become such a big deal for people. Just tip your severs properly man. It’s not that difficult, and it’s not going to break the bank, and if it is, then you are too broke to go out to eat. Stay home and cook.

Should be eating at home then if they need to save money

If I’m alone, I’ll tip $2 max. Regardless of what I order. It shouldn’t be hard to take care of one person. And that’s even when I eat with coworkers during lunch and the checks are split.

That’s because you’re an inconsiderate POS who has never worked in the service industry, and everyone who serves you probably hates your guts.

It shouldn't be my job to pay your employee.

So a $30 lunch for just your bill and you tip $2?

These topics are always fun as you see who has worked in the service industry before and who hasn't.

Beg to differ. I've know lots of folks in the service industry in N.O. and they all say black patrons are the absolute worst tippers and act the most needy.

Oh, and don't kill the messenger as I am only relaying their feelings on this subject.

I've worked in a restaurant where the black employees didn't want to wait on black patrons

It is what it is

Frown all you want. 15% has been the standard for a very long time. In fact, restaurants that impose a tip on large groups only go to 18% and that's been considered robbery.

Yeah, they should. But them tipping 15% instead of 20% isn't really that big of a deal I don't think.

his is widely known and an absolute fact. Even my black friends admit it. Major media outlets cannot say this in an article because there will be riots in the streets.

I waited tables in college and it's a fact. Older white guys were always the most consistent and generous tippers.

There's only so much to go around when everyone and their mother wants a damn tip.

Tipping is OOC. The reins need to be pulled back a good bit.

When you don't tip at restaurants, "you’re essentially underpaying someone,” he said.
It isn’t Scruffy’s job to pay the worker’s wages.

It is the restaurant owner/manager’s job.

Pay them an actual wage. Tips are a “bonus” and should not be included in the calculation of a worker’s paycheck.

Not a millennial here, and I, too, must have missed the newspaper article that 20% is the standard.

TBH, I'd rather tip a total, rather than a %. For example, why should I tip a waiter more $ for bringing me one $5 bottle of beer than one who is constantly there to refill my $2 cup of coffee?

Two of the OT's favorite subjects in one thread.

Millennials and tipping

all we need is an injection of early morning grass-cutting and a cop shooting

and somethin somethin Gravy

This.

15% for really good service.

The younger crowd won’t remember this but 15% use to be what was considered the appropriate tip.

I believe it is only the server looking for their tip

I do agree that we should just pay service industry folks a fair wage. $2.13 an hour is fricking slave labor. Idk how it ever became acceptable to force a customer base into funding your payroll in some other mechanism other than simply purchasing your product/service.
