Because ruston is so much better right?

But, the United States needs around 60,000 more doctors.
You can create all the medical schools you want, but without funding more residency spots, the shortage will continue.

As a recent grad I’m both skeptical and excitied. I think this can be a great thing for the university of its played right. For all the headaches he’s caused the athletic department Bruno has done a phenomenal job building the university up academically. I just have a bad feeling that ulm can never have nice things, which I guess is a detrimental mindset and why the university doesn’t get the credit it deserves sometimes, and that this isn’t gonna take off like it should.

Ruston is really progressing nicely. Louisiana Tech is making major infrastructure upgrades and it looks like a major university.
And the academics may be one of the best overall values in the nation.
I am excited about this opportunity in Monroe....but there are a ton of unanswered questions.

I think that settles the debate. Until further notice ULM can now carry the UL title and ULL has to return to using the ULL title
I mean other than the fact that it will be located on ULM's campus, this school is totally independent from ULM. ULM is getting some PR wins out of this from people thinking they're actually getting a ULM College of Medicine with news headlines like this...

First step taken for ULM's Medical school
And from an article last year when ULM had a loose agreement with a different institution
quote:
ULM Chief Communications Officer Lisa Miller said "Students would be NYITCOM students. Therefore, they will be responsible for establishing the fee schedule. The direct financial benefits for ULM will be minimal"

I was totally on the Ruston/LA Tech train until you said something about it being top academics in the nation.. no. Just no.

Is this the same Virginia College that has certifications campuses all over the US?
No but it is the same one that opened a branch campus in Auburn a couple of years ago.

Lol you saying you wouldn't use a DO is kinda silly... You know they learn the same medicine, take the same standardized tests, and do the same residency training as MDs....
Then what is the point of the DO? Why not just have MDs?

They had an agreement with New York Institute of Technology, but NYIT backed out. Let’s see if this works. VCOM has several branches including Auburn. It’s a pretty well regarded DO program.

that's a very good question, in the past it probably mattered. In modern times its largely irrelevant, they are even working on merging the accreditation and licensing. Your just as likely to encounter an incompetent DO as an MD. Your just as likely to have a competent DO as MD.

I would say it is still relevant. I doubt that someone admitted to both LSU-NO med school and VCOM Monroe is going to choose Monroe over LSU, given the higher tuition and locale of Monroe.
Honestly, residency matters much more than med school in regards to physician training.

I mean LSU med schools are of the more relatively inexpensive med schools, in-state tuition wise. if you are OOS, tuition wise you might as well go anywhere or a private school.
The residency thing is basically my point. DOs get residencies alongside MDs all the time and they are working on merging the residencies/accreditation entirely.

I said the academics is one of the best values - as in economic values - it is a Tier 1 institution with stupid low tuition.

An honest answer is that it is way more economically feasible and easier to open a DO school than an allopathic school. Also, ULM isn't really starting their own school. They are letting an institution that has already done all the leg work open a branch on their campus. Virginia college already has the administration and such set up.

Reading comprehension? Top academic values is what he said.
I really wanted my kid to go to Bama but he picked LA Tech because it is one of the best Aviation degree values in the country. Also, props to ULM. The school and Monroe in general need all the good news they can get since mostly both get beaten down pretty bad in the public spotlight.

I bet UL-Lafayette threw a fit.

Look at the history of the DO profession... They were pretty much chiropractors and MDs combined into one. They did spinal adjustments (and still learn to do so in school) and prescribed medicine... along the way the medical field has engulfed them and now they primarily just prescribe medication and as someone said earlier, aren't much different from MDs.

Louisiana needs another med school so bad.
