It's too late ... Sara Carter already knows. She's been hinting at his initials for three days now and she's chomping at the bit to let it out
It's Stefan Halper. I mean it's been common knowledge for a number of days now (Daily Caller has reported the name, but most MSM won't).
There is nothing really "earth shattering" about Halper in particular. No average American has ever heard of him. I think what's earth shattering is the fact he was being used by CIA/FBI to infiltrate the campaign (even though he was never really "in" the campaign). Halper has close ties to MI6 and CIA (his father-in-law was a well known CIA official) and Halper himself worked for Nixon and Reagan in foreign policy roles.
I think what would be earth shattering is if some well known person in the campaign was working for FBI the entire time. What if someone like a Manafort was a spy? THAT would be pretty fricking interesting (though Manafort is unlikely for obvious reasons). NYT leaves that possibility open when they said "at least one" informant in the campaign. "At least one" implies they have information that "maybe" more than one infiltrated.
And it really makes you wonder how long the deep state has been doing shite like this. What if they've been rigging the game for decades? What if they've spied on and/or subverted previous presidential candidates? What if they've been successful all this time without being caught?

It would explain a few particular races such as 1992, 1996, and 2008.

The FBI has reportedly been working in recent weeks to soften the blow if the identity of a top-secret informant who fed information to investigators early on in the Russia probe is revealed.
This is laughable

How? Why won't DOJ reveal identity??

While Rosy is a PoS, he is right about this. We don't know the full story of all the cloak and dagger shite going on with intel sources. Who knows what Halper has done in the past in other cases that might get him killed by Russia or some other angry actor if he is outed.
But there's an easy way to solve this: Give the info to people who have the security clearance to see it. Devin Nunes, being on the Go8, has a security clearance roughly equal to POTUS. What Rosy is doing is refusing EVEN THEM the information, which is total BS. That's the whole POINT of the Gang of Eight -- to make a compromise so that not all of Congress sees classified info. They select 8 members who are sworn to secrecy to oversee really classified stuff.

The funny thing is the white house has sided with the DOJ so far in this dust up

My understanding is that Halper offered money and requested meetings multiple times to both Page and Papadapalas. The theory is that he fed Papadapalas the info about Russia having Hillary's emails, then Pap blabbed about it in the bar to the Australian Clinton Foundation donor. Who then alerted the US authorities.
tldr: Papadapalas was setup, fed intel about Russia, in order to justify the FISA warrants.

Yes. I think what's happening is there's innocent agents and intel sources out there who might be outed too. These sources might not have anything to do with this case whatsoever and Trump doesn't want to endanger them and the (legit) operations they may be involved in now. I'm sure Sessions and others have recommended this course of action.
Trump is president and he has to put national security above personal considerations, no matter how badly he wants to out the names of the bad actors that were engaged against him.

That's probably an issue, if not in this particular case, it kinda matters for anyone else who would cooperate with the government.
WHy the frick would anybody care if anybody cooperated with these crooked assholes to do this shite again?

Watch the informant be Donald J Trump himself. Talk about an underwater, time traveling, multi-dimensional chess move?

he is right about this
Decatur, as he does in an effort to undercut truth, asked a question to which he already knew the answer. I guess his hope was others here would not. He attempted to insinuate Sara Carter and others would have already outed the spy if they had his name.
The thing stopping release currently is the fact of Rosenstein's claim of risk. Not the facts (or lack thereof) behind the claim.
I'd be stunned if Decatur did not already know that prior to posing the question.

Possibly negotiating end to Mueller probe and reduced charges for the others

If the FBI worked as hard at actually doing their job instead of running political cover ups then they may regain some credibility one day. The old FBI is dead and gone.

The old FBI was lead by corrupt individuals too.

It is all a smokescreen and bullshite. They colluded to oust Bernie, then they colluded to put at least one of their guys into Trump's inner circle. This is illegal and they are trying to cover it up.
This is exactly like Watergate, only bigger, with way more people involved. It was obviously done with you-know-who's blessing.
Trump could demand all the files or a comprehensive, invasive briefing. He already knows what happened and is letting it run through the congress.
