For two very different reasons/situations:
Bob Marley - Three Little Birds
Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name (Don't ask)

Matchbox 20 - Mad Season. Got dumped around 02 and heard the song for the first time at timeout lounge shortly thereafter. Something about that song always reminded me of her but at the same time made me feel ok.

It's not a song on his greatest hits, but the Secret O' Life from the album "JT" fits that bill for me.

Chris Isaak - Forever Blue .... brutal soundtrack to the summer of 94 during a breakup ... lots of coke didn't help matters either.
Lucinda - Car Wheels ... another summer of heartache.
Stupid 20's

Copious amounts of Hal Ketchum.

Not one particular song, but nostalgic tunes always seem to do the trick. 80's pop stuff takes me back to carefree childhood. Early 90's brings me back to college.
