If Memphis picks first, I'd be shocked if they didn't take Doncic.

There we go... that sums it up.

Ayton to the Cavs.

NBA Comparison: Toni Kukoc/Hedu Turkoglu

Doncic has been playing a lot of PG so those comparisons are pretty awful. Even if he's not a dedicated PG, he'll probably be the secondary creator on a team. There's not much there other than they were born abroad.

ETA: Ginobli comparison is a lot more appropriate

Obviously Kukoc was not, but once Hedo got to Orlando he was usually their secondary ballhander behind their PG.

Years of 5 and 6 assists.

Although to be fair I'm not old enough to really remember Kukoc in his prime.

I find it odd that 5 of the top 6 players are centers. It seems like everyone is trying to project the next unicorn.

ETA: I don't watch a ton of college basketball, but if Ayton is bad defensively how is he better than Okafor?

They need it badly. Their post LeBron outlook (if he leaves) is not ideal, to say the least

Jmo but Ayton is an absolute physical freak compared to Okafor. He has all the tools to be a good defender eventually plus he actually has an outside jumper unlike Okafor, who never had one at Duke and 4 years later still doesn't have one.

It's crazy how smooth his offensive game looked in college, yet he's a complete non-factor in the pros.

Arizona fan here. Ayton isn't bad on D. He's an ok shotblocker, just not as good as you'd expect based on how freaky his length and athleticism.

One of the problems is he was paired with Dusan Ristic, who was really slow and immobile, so Ayton always got stuck against the smaller, quicker guys because Dusan couldn't. When he gets to be a true C, he will look better on D than in college.

He is so agile and athletic that he will at least be ok on D in the NBA. Okafor isn't half as quick as Ayton is. Vs his athletic potential, he may never be the impact defender he could be, but he won't be a liability.

Good to know. I was just genuinely curious because I keep hearing that the downside to Ayton is his defense. It doesn't seem very smart to draft a defensive liability at center with the overall number 1 pick.

His problem is conditioning. You can only get by like that when you're 17-18
Eventually that catches up to him, which it looks like it has.

Ayton isn't a bad defender, he was just exceptional in all other categories. He's nowhere near a liability, he just doesn't dominate in rim protection like you expect from a 7'1 kid with a 7'6 wingspan and a 42 inch vertical.

He improved as a shot blocker as the season progressed too. It just sucked because when we got a team with a smaller 4, he always had to play out of position on the perimeter because Ristic couldn't.

My biggest criticism of him on D is that he lacks a natural shotblocker's instict and could push himself harder at times. One on one with a NBA center, he'll be fine, though. His lateral movement is nuts for his size and he's strong.

Id love to pair Ayton with Collins in Atlanta, but I think if the Hawks had the choice, they go Luka.

I'm biased, but unless you have a C set, I don't know how a team would pass on Ayton.

He's 7'1, 260, has the 7'6 wingspan, a 42 inch vert and can touch the top of the backboard. He was a .343% 3 point shooter, so he has legit range plus the post game. I just think it's hard to pass on that physical profile.

Doncic is good, but Ayton is a unicorn physically and skill wise.

1.Ayton
2.Doncic
3.Bamba
4.Carter
5.Porter

Thats my board for Atlanta. I think Bagley is going to be a good NBA player, but he doesnt fit the Hawks, and I am not high on Jackson at all.

I think Bagley's the surest bet, but he doesn't have the ceiling that Ayton and Doncic have.
