That's a ridiculous policy. But you knew it, and apparently you chose to miss classes without documentation anyway.
That's on you.
Also, this smells like bullshite. I've never heard of a college class, hell any class, where attendance was weighted so heavily. At worst, I've seen classes where you're dropped if you missed a certain number of classes. But nothing like what you describe. What school is this?

Then you're a dumb frick who deserved to fail. Do think this shite is going to fly in the real world where you're Peter Gibbons from Office Space and get promoted for not showing up to work?

He probably did not show up for Day 1...

Participation is factored into your overall grade, so if you don't show up you're already being docked points. Then to top it off they deduct half a letter grade for every absence that is unexcused.
This class policy and teacher is the reason education in this country is a joke.

So if you don't show, you're not only having points deducted from your participation but also your final grade.
How was attendance taken? Was there a roll call, or some sort of sign-in?

In the real world, I'd be getting paid to be there. In my english class, I'm not being paid to be there.
I turned in my assignments and did all the work.

I now have an F on my transcript because of this attendance policy.
I have two F's on my transcript. English 1002 and Chem 1202. Spring 94 was a ROUGH semester over a girl and thanks to the 18 yr old drinking age. Detouring off Burbank to Tigermart at 8 am for Thunderbird was more appealing than going to class for a month.
Upside is, it's not the end of the world.
Just re-take the course and get at least a B. This will be easy to show and explain to a potential employer if it's an anomaly and you have a good 'reason'.
Then, get your shite together and make the Deans List your last 8 semesters and you can graduate with a 2.99 like me.

Syllabus day was always the best. The only day you knew upfront that you weren't going to do anything.

You do realize that in order to get paid for a job you actually have to show up?
Posted on 5/9/18 at 8:14 am to fightingtigers98
Half of success is just showing up. You should write a thank you note to LSU for teaching you this. And seriously bro, have some self- respect. Hold yourself to a higher standard. The world is overrun with people too lazy and mediocre to put in the time and effort who somehow manage to fail when achieving is so simple.

In the real world if you do all your work and turn in all your assignments correctly and on time no one will fire you for not going to Janice's baby shower in the common kitchen.

You are clearly not college material.

So you knew this going into the class and still fricked it up... enjoy trade school, genius.

LSU
Here's the attendance policy from the syllabus
Here's the attendance policy from the syllabus
quote:
When students have valid reasons for absence (see PS-22), they are responsible “for providing reasonable advance notification and appropriate documentation of the reason for the absence” and “for making up examinations, obtaining lecture notes, and otherwise compensating for what may have been missed.” Teachers “will assist those students who have valid reasons,” but some in-class activities are difficult to make up. Valid reasons that must be documented include: illness; serious family emergency; special curricular requirements such as judging trips or field trips; court-imposed legal obligations such as subpoenas or jury duty; military obligations; serious weather conditions; religious observances (see the interfaith calendar website); official participation in varsity athletic competitions or university musical events.
Absences without valid reasons, or unexcused absences, are limited to three per term in classes that meet three times a week (e.g., MWF) and two per term in classes that meet two times a week (e.g., TTH or MW). Beyond these limits, each unexcused absence will lower the final course grade by one grade increment: for example, a B+ goes to a B, a B goes to a B-, and a B- goes to a C+.
NOTE: DOCUMENTATION FOR ABSENCES ARE DUE TO THE INSTRUCTOR WITHIN A WEEK FOLLOWING THE ABSENCE.

It shows that you have no respect for the teacher or the class if you don't show up. If you're not willing to go to class, don't go to college. That is not a ridiculous policy. Walk into the real world sometime
Meh. My Fluid Dynamics class was taught by someone I really couldn't understand, nor cared to listen to. I never did homework and missed tons of class. I made mostly A's on all the tests because I studied my arse off on my own. I then went on to take the FE exam and passed that without breaking a sweat. I got a C in that fluids class even though I did well on tests. I don't complain because it was spelled out that homework and attendance was a factor. 20% off of my grade was my own fault. But if I would have failed, I would have been causing a stir. The whole point of the class is to master the material. I did that and then some. The teacher and his homework were not helpful to me, so why waste my time with it other than to get some arbitrary grade. Again, I kick myself because I would have started with a higher salary if I didn't have that attitude then. But it still is only because of some BS rule. Not anything that actually holds any merit.

Well, you're a dumbass for knowing that and choosing not to show up. What did you think would happen?
