I can see you are ignorant of history, but you'd think you might remember that the Gulf War was over within 2 and a half months.
It ended before they actually left. But they were set to go.
I remember we had a National Guard MLRS unit giving us supporting fires while we pushed north during Desert Storm.

I don’t have any military experience so my knowledge about the roles of servicemen is pretty shallow. With that being said, I think anyone who is willing to wear a uniform and serve their country in whatever capacity they can deserve respect. The guys who actually fought obviously are entitled to a higher level of reverance, but I don’t think any military member should be put down for not having a combat role.

I know some NG/Reservists that have been in the same shitholes as every other military branch. They still are

Why are you singling out Reserve and National Guard? Active duty deployments are also spent in Korea, Germany, etc.
Plenty of La Guard units have served, and continue to serve, in Iraq and Afghanistan. The 256th Brigade lost plenty of Soldiers in Iraq during some of the toughest fighting there in 04-05. LANG Transportation, engineering, and Aviation units in Iraq and Afghanistan have all seen casualties, including deaths.
Even for the easier deployments to Kuwait or other places, you are spending 12 months away from your family and they have to make do without you. That's not easy on the family.
Sure, it's volunteer. But if they weren't making that choice, the government would be making it for people, possibly even you.

They were not being deployed to Ft Polk for the Weekend, they were being sent for in-processing to active duty. From Ft Polk they went to Ft Hood for combat certification. I know because they were part of the 256 infantry brigade that is the Louisiana National Guard. My unit, 1/141 Field Artillery was a round out battalion for the 5th infantry but worked with the 256 as well.

Met a guy in a 610 shop that had a freaking bronze star for combat valor.
His citation read like he was freaking Rambo.
He wanted to deploy with the grunts and they let him. He was out of Pendleton. The shop had his citation posted on the wall.
His MOS was avionics, so on a normal day he might have to leave the A/C to go to lunch. You'll probably never see another CAR in an avionics shop.

3/23 deployed a few times.
The MP unit went to couple places.
HMLA 773 supported a Ranger Batt in the middle East as well.

My best bud's brother spent considerable time deployed in the ME. In fact, he just got back from a deployment somewhere over there (I never asked where).
He is a mechanic, but rode along in convoys, would have to fix broken down shite while getting shot at, was involved in many firefights, etc. He's got some medals for rescuing people during firefights. I wouldn't exactly call that a cush job.
I had another buddy a while back that was in Iraq when SHTF.
Maybe some people get easy jobs, but they certainly do in other branches too

You’re right but I’ll make an exception, didn’t make that up, wish I could search the local news archives, I saw it, and it was laughable

I have first hand knowledge of the Penn NG unit in Iraq. I watched the SCUD come in and explode about a half mile away. We helped bring the wounded and dead in to the hospital we were working at.
So this PA NG unit that I was referencing would've been, if I remember correctly, west or southwest of Baghdad in roughly 2005 or 2006, so not the First Gulf War. I also know that a Georgia NG unit got torn up pretty good (was a major reason why the Mahmoudiyah/Yusufiyah/Iskandariyah area became so bad - they refused to even go out after a while), and I know there was a LA NG unit got it pretty good as well. I know that there had been NG units in our area near Tarmiyah before we got there as well, and believe me, that place was no picnic, either.
I think you were in-eloquently stating something that has some kernels of truth to it, and I think there's an important conversation to be had about some of this, but maybe think it through a little more and be more precise about your language as well.
