Heard that he was experiencing shoulder or arm soreness.
If that's the case, it will be difficult for him to be ready for the post season.
Sad to watch, Caleb is a Tiger, just hope he can come back and be great next year.

Looks like we all watched the same game last night and saw the same things with Gilbert.

Dunno if it's psychological or physiological but he's no where near his top end. Really hope it comes back to him. He can chunk it when he's well.

Gilbert is a huge disappointment! Thought the kid would have progressed from last year but he only got worse in my opinion. Can't start & can't pitch a few batters- WTF?

Didn’t he throw 4 scoreless innings a week ago?

Yeah, Gilbert is an asset, Obviously he or they are searching for something with him. He was unable to take it to the mound last night. Hope he gets well. With our Friday and Sunday starters getting yanked early we really need him to get right

I noticed the opening weekend the slider looked nothing like it did last spring. The fastball velocity has been way down, he’s experiences soreness...

It’s unfortunate because he’s such a good kid and something seems to be bothering him mechanically.

If this is the case. What the heck was he doing starting the 9 inning? Why was no one warming up?

I rarely will comment directly to another poster but seriously dude go frick off. If you have been watching even a little bit you can clearly see this isn't the case of him just not getting it done. Something is going on with him either its physical or mental. He doesn't need some jackass calling him a disappointment.

Gilbert revealed that he was shut down last week because of stiffness in his shoulder that flared up during the Tennessee series. Because Gilbert is an engineer, he specified that his “decelerators were inflamed.” What now?
“When you throw, your arm has to decelerate to slow down,” Gilbert explained. “So the muscles that cause that in back of the shoulder.”

Gilbert has thrown four times since the shoulder stiffness and excepts to be able to pitch this weekend, barring any setbacks in the bullpen session on Wednesday night.

He got a cortisone injection last Friday as LSU proceeded with caution.

He took the loss in the final OM game

Gilbert has been injured all season, not a "sore arm" he has a shoulder injury. He is grinding thru the pain to pitch because he feels the team needs him. They shot him up with cortisone to try to get him thru the season. Most unselfish player on team to sacrifice his draft year to gut out an injury for the team. My buddy has a kid on the team, I've met Caleb several times, as fine a young man as you will ever meet. Bleeds purple and gold. Works his arse off in the class room and on the field.

I hate to hear this. I am a strong opponent of medical practitioners doing things like this. A healthy Gilbert showed what he is capable of last year. I hope he didnt hurt himself too much.
Thanks for the info

This makes a lot of sense. His velocity has been down 5+ mph from day 1 and his slider hasn't had the same bite to it that it used to.

Everyone remembers his Omaha start last year, but Gilbert was dominant for us all year long against top competition (nearly 60 innings pitched). He had the lowest ERA on the team, the best SO:walk ratio (67:12), and a .190 ba/against. He has physically looked like a different guy this year.

Good post.

Caleb has a lot of game when he's well.

I know this will sound negative but the truth is not only are without Walker, for all practical purposes we've been without Caleb2017 as well.
