Baseball not fun to watch

Its not that their losing.
It's just there is not one facet of the game that you can get excited about. It's like watching paint dry.
I can't remember in my lifetime not watching LSU baseball without admiration and respect. Not worth the price of my tickets

Watching us mount comebacks in critical moments has been an awesome facet of LSU baseball the past decade. The tension immediately before followed by a great sense of excitement is a great feeling. And its happened quite alot.
This year, it just hasn't happened. Sans the first game of the season and 1 game against Tenn, we've blown numerous opportunities to win games at the end.

The team is average to below average in ALL three areas, pitching, fielding and hitting.
Injuries suck and have absolutely impacted the W-L record but lets be honest when Josh Smith is being counted on as one of your top 3 position players in the line up, we were never going to be legitimate CWS contenders to begin with. Even with out the injuries this isn't a CWS team, with injuries I think we all know what we are ....LUCKY to make the Tourney.

What bothers me is that I don't see much improvement for next seasons squad. Not much excitement in Mudville. And don't get me started on football...

Next year's team will be much improved both offensively and in pitching.
Freshmen will become sophomores, injured players will be healthy and the incoming recruiting class is loaded.

I just find it difficult to accept that we are this down from year's past in terms of talent level. The program at this level quite honestly should not have to deal with this level of volatility with respect to the talent on the roster.
There's no one-not in conference and certainly not in America-in this sport that enjoys the support that LSU Baseball does. From both an athletic department and fanbase perspective. Yet over the long-term, despite the consistent support shown on multiple levels that are hugely important in building and maintaining a program on this level, we experience fluctuations in terms of on-the-field performance.
The money hasn't stopped being spent. The recruiting landscape hasn't been tilted away from us. There's no limit on the type or caliber of staff we can go after in comparison to our opponents and fellow competitors. The Athletic Department is continuing to dedicate resources and large dollar amounts to improving the facilities and amenities available to LSU Baseball.
...and yet we see an inconsistent performance. Yes I understand that there are some injury concerns this year. Walker's Tommy John last year in the post-season, Watson missing time, Smith essentially being lost for the majority of the year, on down the line.
Despite all of these issues, I find it difficult to accept the performance on the field. To me, when we face adversity that's beyond our control coaching and development become that much more important. They also become that much more visible. Regardless of whether it's being done adequately or otherwise.
This year, we've seen the mistakes and the glaring drop-off in talent express itself much moreso, and in a sense, we've seen our coaching staff unable to hide behind what has been for a long while a talent advantage.
Our coach has been here for over a decade. By now it should be long past time to work kinks like these out. We've experienced the Javy stubbornness, the cruise-control setting he admittedly placed the program on after the 2009 season, as well as embarrassments and ham-handed responses to defeats at the hands of Stonybrook and Houston here at the Box.
This year's dip tends to make me believe that Paul Maineiri's just about run his course in Tigertown. When left to his own devices, he follows up success not with renewed focus but with questionable hiring tactics that yield poor recruiting and even worse talent development.
It may just be time to cut bait, restring and recast.

I understand that top 10 baseball programs have down years. Skip had a few too. We are in the moment of a season but after the season is done , fans will renew their spirit for 2019.
LSU has finished number 1 or 2 for seven seasons since 1991. Six titles. I think fans feel entitled for more and feel low esteem when the team is struggling. A part of them is a part of me mentality.
Hopefully, this years adversity will build toughness for the next couple of seasons.

Can you expand on this part? The recruiting class, assuming normal draft attrition and nothing major, appears to be one of the best we’ve had in several years.

I'm pretty sure I'm correct about next season.
Rabalais has a good article today in the Advocate about several "blue bloods" baseball programs struggling this season.
TCU has been to 4 straight CWS and they may not make the NCAA postseason this year.
Virginia has a 14 consecutive season streak of NCAA appearances and likely won't make the post-season this year unless they win the ACC tournament (auto qualifier).
Miami missed the tournament last season for the first time in 44 years (!). And unless they win the ACC tournament, they likely won't go again this season since they have a losing record overall this season.
Rice won't make the post-season. It's likely neither will Arizona State.
Southern Cal, which has the most CWS championships at 12, has a losing record this season and a RPI of 117. They won't be in the post-season.
LSU baseball fans are so entitled.....especially the ones who post on this board and don't even go to games.
