why are we putting him at 3-5 years to develop?

In all likelihood that's going to be a low first rounder and if it netted you an elite pass rusher then its cheap

I had this argument with people last year over the "expensive" price we paid for kamara

Sorry I’m not saying he will take 3-5 years to develop. I’m saying I don’t care about 3-5 years from now, if he’s not an elite player NEXT year, which you keep saying is not necessary then it’s way to expensive.

Kamara did play at an elite level if Davenport plays like that next year ok

Can you imagine the board had the Saints not taken Davenport, then missed out on Key or Landry? Would be worst than this, so I guess we are lucky.

But you’re worried about having that 1st rd pick next year for “post Brees”?

Makes no sense but ok. This move can benefit both lines of thinking.

Would be nice to have the pick but if Davenport can be a rotational lineman this year & move into a starting role as we transition post Brees, it will be hard to gripe about this selection

You mean the tape vs CUSA teams?

Everything I’ve read said this guy is a project, so banking on him to have an immediate impact is a huge risk

1 of all, there’s a laundry list of elite NFL pass rushers who played against “inferior” competition

Secondly, there is tape out there vs A&M, Baylor, Senior Bowl etc

Of course there is a learning curve there. Even the most polished pass rushers don’t come in and set the league on fire very often

And his “immediate impact” simply has to be applying some sort of pressure on 3rd down

Would have been nice to be able to run a freak pass rusher out there against Minnesota late in the 4th quarter, what do I know tho

just because Brees is gone doesn't mean you completely give up on your long term outlook....I like the all in mantra but

You currently have...
1) a young elite shut down corner
2) a young elite WR
3) young elite RB
4) youth all among your D
5) Pretty damn elite OL when armstead is healthy, with both tackles locked up for a while

pair all of that with an elite edge guy? Not exactly an awful team.

Oh for frick sake, do we have to fully explain everything? I don’t care how good any one player is 3-5 years from now. Immbe told this one player that uses 3 picks doesn’t need to be elite right away but has tremendous upside. Having a stud DE in 2020 doesn’t concern me right now

The Saints have a 1-2 year window max to get to another Super Bowl. So if you are going to trade away multiple picks it better be for IMMEDIATE IMPACT otherwise just stay were you are or even better accumulate more picks

I agree that’s why I don’t like giving up picks unless it’s for an immediate impact player

IMMEDIATE IMPACT

well clearly our FO believes he will, perhaps they don't think he's quite as raw as we're saying.....FWIW Lattimore was also considered a bit raw

I don't think you were solving our pass rushing issues at 27, he can have an immediate impact while also have the chance for greatness later.

I disagree. I think we could’ve gotten one of the best OL in the draft in Hernandez. Which I think is a crucial need but hey, what do I know.

So, having Cam in his prime along with a player with the potential to give us a freaking unreal pass rush from two bookends ala New York with Strahan and Umen is a bad thing?

With Lattimore and Crowley along with Williams in the backend?

Have I missed something here? This was a homerun hit. Kid will be learning as soon as he is signed under the best overall DE in football. He will ne ready and worh speed, height, quickness, and power he will become destructive. I have never been so excited about our defense since Dome Patrol years.

Even if you get 30 snaps a game on passing downs he can have an immediate impact. That’s about all you can ask of most 1st year DEs

Cam Jordan is the best overall DE in the NFL. Not a better pass rusher than Griffen or Mack, but plays the run better and affects the passer better overall.

ETA: I'm not even sure this is debatable.

You might want to look at the word "overall".

A lot of people think Cam Jordan is the most complete DE in football.
