Anyone else remember Tommy Smyth and company pretending like they were at Champions League games back in the late 90s?

Well, if you were nostalgic for those days, I have great news. Fox is only sending two teams to Russia.

quote:

Fox Sports said that eight of its 12 commentators for the 2018 World Cup matches are American and only four of them—the teams of John Strong and Stu Holden, and JP Dellacamera and Tony Meola—are actually going to physically be in Russia for the tournament. The rest—Aly Wagner and Derek Rae; Glenn Davis and Cobi Jones; Jorge Perez Navarro and Mariano Trujillo; Mark Followill and Warren Barton—will be watching and commentating from the Fox Sports studio in Los Angeles.

quote:

FOX Sports was in discussions last year to hire more talented commentators. But given FOX’s decision to slash budgets, the American broadcaster decided to hire a mostly American crew instead.”

I'm very annoyed Derek Rae ain't going. His pronunciation is flawless. Love that dude.

ETA: Now that I read it again, it does sound like he will commentate games remotely, which is also annoying.

I hate Fox. I'm contemplating getting the SCH set up and watch the British broadcast. The only thing holding me back is I suck at technology.

It's not that hard. I'm skeptical that you even have to get a proxy, although I cannot stress how great privateinternetaccess is.

What I do to watch virtually any stream is this: I have Ace Player and then I go to r/soccerstreams and I just copy and paste the stream link into ace player's content ID (ctrl + T if I recall) and keep doing that until I get a good stream.

I could take this as an insult, but then I remember Ian Darke ain't walking into that Fox booth.

My tv sound is immediately turned to mute on any game that JP Dellacamera does!! I really don't know why Fox continues to employ him.

Fox is already notoriously cheap for their soccer already

Crappy rebroadcast signals on matches being shown on 4K cameras and not even sending people to Europe to call champions league or bundesliga matches.

frick fox

Sometimes i turn my vpn on but most the time I don’t bc it’s using an app already on my tv.

I used to always use ACE IDs but I use the pay for service for convenience. Not having to dig for streams or id’s. And not having to hook my tablet up to my tv. Along with quality 1080 streams that look better than fox does on cable

Wasn't Donovan suppose to be a third man with Strong and Stu? Guess that Mexican money is too sweet.

Outside of Rae that's pure shite. I'm elated Fox is going to lose on their investment with such a disrespectful lineup.

The one thing ESPN could do worth a frick is major footy tournaments. Ley is going to be missed horribly.

ESPN seemed to take pride in the fact they were broadcasting the biggest sport event in the world. ESPN also seemed to cater not just to Americans, I loved their WC and Euro productions.

ESPN had games called from Bristol during the last World Cup and Euros

Espn World Cup coverage was awesome. You could tell they spared no expense. Hope they get the rights back.

Even though it's a small thing, commentating remotely is such a bummer while watching a game. Having the atmosphere mixed with the commentating puts you right in the stadium.

This was already my least anticipated WC in a while due to the USMNT, but Fox has shite on any interest I had left.
