Thoughts from the board on this place. Is it like the Ruffino's here in BR? What is good there to eat? Thanks

My parents enjoy it. They’ve been a large number of times. I haven’t been.

Get the braised pork cheeks for an appetizer. They are phenomenal

The dinner special when I went was a lobster dinner. The lobster popover had the texture of being over microwaved. The portions were small and the rest of the "dinner" wasn't as memorable. Not impressed.

Different atmosphere than BR. Open kitchen... haven’t had a bad meal the handful of times I’ve been over the last year.

Been there several times, enjoyable meals & good atmosphere each time, so far...

I really used to like the place as the service was always on point. It has been hit or miss the last few times I have tried it. I have not gone back in a while.

The atmosphere is the best in Lafayette.
The food is on par with other fine dining establishments in Lafayette.
The service is good, but not exceptional. But that's good enough to be the best in Lafayette. Much of the staff are college aged kids, not professional waiters.
For Lafayette, it's really good. Due to price point and competitors, it would be closed within the year in NOLA, maybe with 5-10 yrs in BR. I'm sure the rent on that building is exceptionally high.

Just to be clear... are you saying the Laffy location wouldn’t make it BR due to the service/food? Or are you saying Ruffinos will be closed within 5-10 years in BR regardless?
Ruffin and Peter print money out of the BR location is why I’m asking.

Really? I find Pamplona service to be better.
Ruffino's is pretty good. It's not in our rotation, but we go there occasionally.

Been a few times.
My experience was that the service was great, but the food was average at best.

That's a fair question. I was assuming it would be competing against all the other similar establishments in BR, including the original restaurant. Could BR support 2 Ruffinos? I'm not sure if it could, I mean, it's possible. I'm no expert on the BR dining scene. Rent has to be awfully high at the Lafayette location, but would that be par for the course in BR?
I think my main point is that Lafayette diners aren't expecting Commander's Palace levels of service, etc.

Ruffin bought the building and land from Donald Link in 2013 as I'm guessing it's paid for by now. Cochon was open a little over 1 year before it closed.

Great atmosphere. Great food!!

The Laff restaurant is a lot less stable than the BR one. Requires a lot of Peter and Ruffin’s attention. But that place has a really cool design and atmosphere. Food is pretty similar
