and when you let parents know that you are taking vacation hours and they bitch and complain why you taking them. These are the parents that grew up in the 50's, 60's and never moved ahead with the times and have the same beliefs from that time

I have 280 hrs in the bank. I like to build up a lot of hours over a few years and start using all of my annual PTO afterwards. Worst case scenario I have 7 weeks salary added to my savings if I lose my job.

What are you talking about? You're a teacher and parents are bitching or your parents are bitching at you? You're post makes no sense. Either way, why do you care what other people are saying about your vacation, and if it's the first why didn't you just say you'd be out? You don't have to tell them what youre doing.
