Added another 1911 and a new wheel-gun to my stable.

Went to Sportsman's Warehouse in Slidell because I learned they carry .30-06 for the M1 Garand and also needed to restock on some 45. While on the ammo aisle I kept hearing a voice calling me from my left, in the direction of the gun counter. So I just had to go investigate...
To add to my 10mm and 45 Colts, I brought home this Rock Island Armory Ultra FS 9mm. I know. I know. It's not a tippy-top-of-the-line Nighthawk, Les Baer, Ed Brown or Wilson but R.I.A. Has come a long way from their infancy and these Ultra and their Tactical models are very nice guns for entry-level 1911's. For under $600 they come with an adjustable LPA rear site and a red fiber optic front site, G10 custom grips with mag release thumb relief cut, mag well extension, beaver-tail thumb safety, ambi rear safety and skeletonized hammer and adjustable trigger.
Also picked up a Taurus Model 66 .357mag 4" revolver to get back into the wheel gun game (haven't had one since I lost a 4" Nickel Python to Katrina ).
Here's some pics of the new additions. I'll be putting these through their paces Sunday along with the new M1 Garand now that I got some ammo for it!
This gun collecting shite is addictive... And expensive!
Katrina left me with only 3 guns and up until about 5 years ago I hadn't really touched them but once I started shooting again, and became a Range Officer, it's become quite the hobby and a passion. I've over quintupled my collection since then. I sure hope I don't get in any freak boating accidents soon.

And the Garand for those of you who may have missed my post about it when I got it a few weeks back.

CD, did you break down and clean the Garand when it came in?

I've always liked Taurus revolvers tbh.
A good buddy of mine has a Rock Island 1911. He hardly ever cleans it and it runs flawlessly.

I like the rock island 1911's alot. They feel broke in when new.

I have a stupid question. I've been a gun guy all my life. What's the deal with the cartridge through the trigger guard when you lay a gun down to take a picture of it?
And congrats on your two new purchases. I'm thinking I may actually go get another 1911 soon myself.

It's so the gun is at an angle for the pic

Some use a cartridge, some use just whatever. It's really just helps with taking the pic, so the weapon isn't laying flat.

Both are black so you obviously bought the evil murderous versions.

Tell me about it. I bought 7 in 2017 and hoping not to buy 8 in 2018.
That RIA 1911 looks pretty fine.
That’s a nice Garand too.

I really like that .357 in black.

Yes sir. That's the first thing that's recommended to do, both from CMP and other purchasers as well. I follow a couple of the bigger forums for the M1 and everyone says to do that. Many people have found broken parts, mainly the main spring, when first receiving their's.

That's what I hear.

get a 22 TCM barrel and spring for the 1911 if you can find one. 2000fps and fireballs with no recoil.

I like a 1911 with a whole lot of miles on it. The rock islands feel half way there out of the box to me and thats what i like about them

I have been on the fence about a Rock Island 1911 for hours it seems. I left my local shop, came home, logged on, and saw this. I’m getting it. Thanks baw!

I was wondering if this was possible. I know RIA sells a 9mm 1911 that comes as a set with the 22TCM swap parts. If it's possible to do with the model I got, I'm definitely looking into it.

I'm gonna run it thru its paces tomorrow and will report back.

That RIA, with the blank slide, and the black stocks, looks pretty sexy. Damn nice looking M1, too.
