I think I see the common thread here. Everyone that is very against this concept appears to be in the construction industry. Which, having worked in it at a time myself, is probably the most inflexible industry when it comes to stuff like this. Also, explains why it has the highest divorce rate, men with multiple children from multiple women, etc. I'm sorry that the industry is that uncooperative when it comes to very important life events. Industry aside, if you could take time when a child birth comes along, I'm sure you would.
Or you are specifically not high up enough in the chain for someone to realize you are gone.

You could have just said "none" instead of trying to fluff it.

Now if this is repetitive work, (retail, fast food, line factory) I agree with you.
However, if this is specialty work, I don't.

I have a buddy who got 10 weeks paid and he can split it up in any amount and use it anytime within a year
That's insane. It's not even paternity leave anymore. It's 10 extra weeks of vacation.

For complaining alot about not having the time to take off for the birth of a child, you sure are logging a lot of time on TD.
Was waiting for you to use this.
Apparently, you are not a multitasker nor have access to as many resources as I do

When did I say that?

On page 1.

, you will always be remembered as the guy who left for 8 weeks due to an honestly female related situation.
If you meant something different, edit. But we know you didn't.

What kind of easy job do you have where you could be gone for 8 weeks and someone else could cover your shite so smoothly?
The President of my hospital could leave for 8 weeks, and we wouldn't miss a beat.
I wouldn't call his job "easy" either.

Yep. What us blue collar baws realize is that by working hard and setting a good example we raise our kids better being away from home than these desk jockeys do by being chronically underemployed and finger painting in turtlenecks with their kids

Our company lets us cash out our paternity leave so I'll be taking 2 weeks off and getting a lump sum payment for the remainder.

anyone high enough up the chain in a well established company has surrounded themselves with people who can run the operation in their absence. This is Leadership 101.

also, this thread reeks of middle management baws in blue collar positions who have WAY too high opinion of their worth.

Are you and him interacting every day? Would you truly know how his absence would be handled by the people he reports to or who directly reports to him?
Point being, unless you're directly involved in replacing an absent employee, it wouldn't affect you.
And being able to "not miss a beat" doesn't mean it was easy to do so.
Posted on 3/19/18 at 9:14 am to shel311
don't get me wrong-no way I could do 8 weeks. I am the type to answer emails on vacation. I'm a bad example of this. But to act like taking the time afforded to you = worthless to your company is extremely dumb. Hell, the best employee benefit plans are afforded to senior leadership. Ya know, the important people.

For having a kid? What a shite company.
When it comes to stock options, insurance and 401k matching it's really good but I guess it's demanding. Obviously they can't tell you that you can't take off it's just kind of the vibe I get. I think the most I have seen someone take off is 4 days.

The way a lot of them are posting I can only hope that most of them do not actually manage anything.
