The incredible thing is that Virginia wasn't just a one seed. They were the number one overall seed.

No it's not. Didn't think it would happen because of the officiating has been so bad...#1s always make a run and refs let them back in.

But...this is modern CBB, this is some huge upset especially if one team is going to play old school.

Charles was right this isn't 1980.

3-point shot equalizes everybody.

And you can't play like Virginia, slow down half-court...and dominate in today's game when everyone can nail 3s and erase any deficit in minutes.

Virginia would get 2s and their opponent would get 3s.

Slow big man offense isn't today's world.

Chaminade was an NAIA team when they beat #1 UVA with Ralph Sampson in 1982. That Chaminade team had previously lost to Wayland Baptist out of Plainview, TX. That to me is the greatest single-game upset in NCAA history.

Virginia set a new record for most wins in ACC history this year right? I don't think it's fair to make this an indictment on their style of ball.

I don't think so.
Virginia had an excellent season, but there's no real measurement that they are some "great" team.
And they certainly don't have overwhelming talent. And historically these Virginia teams don't have enough firepower to win this tournament regardless of their regular season.

This would be the greatest upset in sports history if UVA was playing a high school team. Like USSR vs. USA. THat's the equivalent.

College vs. Pros...High school vs. College.

This college game both had college players. It's nothing like Miracle on Ice.

This was the certainly the era for it to happen. Small ball, one and done, more parity than ever. It's been predicted in recent years that it would finally happen soon. Now it'll probably happen like 3 more times in the next 10 years. And then twice in one year.

Still cool as shite that it finally did tho

Kinda like the 3-0 deficit. Happened in Sox/Yanks, then happened against my Bruins against the Flyers, then happened for Sharks/Kings. Damn near happened in Blackhawks/Canucks when they got that shorty at the end of regulation as well.

Realize it's never happened in the NBA but the Clippers, Thunder, and Warriors all blew 3-1 leads pretty damn recently. I'm just waiting for the 3-0 to happen because I think it's coming soon.

Virginia was the #1 overall seed. They dominated the best conference in basketball with a 17-1 record. They won every single road game in the ACC this year. They won the conf. tournament which meant they were 20-1 in ACC play. They had the best defense in all of college basketball. They beat 11 NCAAT teams. They beat Duke AND UNC twice.

This was the best single season since UK's undefeated season a few years back. And even then, UVA's season may have been better in light of the fact the ACC was a far better league than the SEC was back then.

In context, it's hard to argue this isn't the biggest upset in NCAAT history.

Didn't it look to anyone that UVA looked really slow?

They seemed like they couldn't cover any 3s or any drive?

They actually looked slow and unathletic and they dominated the ACC in a way no Duke team or anybody ever has.

I was pretty impressed how UMBC kept attacking during that critical sub-10:00 mark when most Cinderellas look in the mirror, play conservative and crumble. Just an incredible win to witness.

Most incredible 2nd half of basketball I have ever seen.

George Mason beating that loaded UConn team awhile back was up there too for me.
