I hope Louisiana teachers do follow suit. I, personally, will come to work, but the idiots in BR and NOLA should do it.

Used to live in OK and can NOT confirm that these actually exist.

$30k a year pay divided by 12 months comes to $2500 a month and teachers dont work 12 months a year, more like just 10 or less, so its really $3000 a month they earn.
i am not saying they are getting rich, but the average wage for blue collar workers is about that so there are definitely not working for minimum wages.
teachers having unions and going on strike is stupid.
as a teacher, if you do not want to work for what they pay, quit, its that simple. when they cant hire teachers they will offer more money, its called supply and demand.

frick em. I have land and a small business there in Oklahoma and it's the state's own damn fault. The reason the state has no tax revenue base for the schools is because they let the tribes buy up all of the land and then it gets put in trust and is non taxable.
The effective tax rates on citizens are in line with other "flyover" states but the large amount of non taxable entities don't generate enough revenue to allow for a raise.

All of this and I've seen it first hand. Hell, the state can't afford to fund the OHP either among many other programs.

Lots of them don't work but around 8 months a year.

so then that puts them at $3750 a month or just a few dollars short of making $1000 a week, plus they get a full benefit package to boot
thats not bad at all, and many people wish they earned that much a week

Damn, some OK students gonna be getting laid en masse that day

Public school teachers in 2018 are borderline worthless and unnecessary. They should be replaced with robots.

Fire them all and outsource the public school system.
End property taxes.
End property taxes.

You think outsource teachers would work for free? Not sure you can end property taxes in that scenario chief. But you might get more for your money.

That's the underlying problem with public education. It's one of the easiest degrees to get at any university and because of that there are too many "qualified" teachers which keeps wages low.
Teaching should be a high wage career and becoming a teacher should me MUCH harder.
yep
there are places abroad where it's more difficult to get a job as a substitute teacher than it is to get a full time teaching gig in many states

Until teachers stop considering themselves to ALL be doing the "same" job.......this will never get solved.
Differential pay is the solution, but their unions would shite bricks
Agreed but if starting pay is 30k it sounds like the union is shitting the bed.

A lot of rounding on your part.
It's closer to 10 months a year worked and not 8.
The 250 you're neglecting does make a difference over the course of a month and there are 4.33 weeks in a month. Not 4. At any rate 30k is not a salary to be envious of. You can make that working at Olive garden

OKlahoma allows the teachers to join a union.
No union here in Mississippi and we do allright.

I'd say you were right if about half the students I supervise in online courses weren't behind their in courses. A few are significantly behind. Then what? Kids have no knowledge and no social skills.
I'll wager a bet you've never taught.
