In other words, attention.
Well yeah but not by others. Just from their child.

Yes, I had a girlfriend who did it to herself.

She also does employment law and has represented fired SPED teachers. A teacher getting fired for advocating for a child is the lowest of lows. That is part of how she got into SPED law.

I used to do IEP facilitation and agree 100%. I've seen teachers try to advocate for the kids only to be shut down by administration.
I've had a principal call the police on a 9 year old for throwing a little time out chair. Had the kid arrested and insisted on a boot camp alternative site for her "safety." It was absurd.

My ex-wife exhibited a few signs of it while we were going thru our divorce. But it was really more a case of her being an attention whore who loves to play the victim card and wouldn’t blink to use the kids to accomplish her objective if necessary.

You have no idea. We had several law suits with the Livingston Parish school board over their refusal to deal with my autistic brother properly. Hell, had a male teacher and walker cop (frick every single one of the walker cops) hit him and hold him down when he was 11 or 12 because he didn't want to participate in PE/recess or some shite. 2 grown arse men laying their hands on a tiny arse autistic kid in a classroom. Smdh.
Now the LP schools are a frick ton better with autism thanks to those law suits.

I've seen it at the Autism clinic I supervise. Can't share much for HIPPA reasons, but it was twisted. The woman fits the profile of who you think would be doing this shite.

Sadly, the chance that you'd see someone you know get busted for or diagnosed with this are slim.
This is the mental illness very morbidly depicted in the movie The Sixth Sense. It is very real, and goes beyond attention seeking. It is almost exclusively female, and also has a lot to do with the primal need to nurture and care for something as they did when they had helpless babies to care for.
