How much higher can they go? Just went to the Cleveland auto show and I was shocked at the prices. I looked at alot of vehicles, but just glanced at some of the prices

Mustang Gt $50k
Jeep wrangler base 4 door $40k, Sahara 52k
Accord $36k
Kia cadenza $44k
Maxima is $40k+
Mini Cooper countryman s $40-50
Traverse high country $52

Since when did basic cars become luxury car prices? Or even full size truck prices?
How much higher can they go? In the last few years I believe a mustang Gt was $30-35 and a base jeep jku was 30-32 and Sahara 36-40. Why the huge increase?

I agree that car prices have gotten out of control.

At one point a Toyota 4Runner was meant to be a cheap, reliable car. Now the base price is something like $35k.

But if you don’t live in a place with reliable public transit, you don’t have a ton of options I guess.

I laugh at that shite. Buy a one year old used car for 30% off the price.

My Nissan Xterra just hit 200k miles so stopped by Nissan this week to browse. Surprised to see the a Frontier wasn’t much more than I paid for my X in 2004.

When union workers are getting paid $30+/hr to sweep the floor at car plants somebody has to eat the cost.

Those cars you are seeing at the car show look to me totally maxed out models. High Country? A $36k Accord has to be a touring with every camera, sensor, etc. Stuff that wasn't available a few years ago. Can still get a damn nice accord for under $30k

Not even 8 years ago I bought a nicely equipped JKU for mid-upper 20s, could have gotten base in low 20s. They’ve about doubled. A Jeep is just not a 50k vehicle.

I think the prices are a result of basically an arms race among the companies.

Same thing with sports cars. The horsepower race has to slow down sometime. If your car isnt running 12s straight out of the factory, its pretty much considered slow

That is insane. My 2014 Sahara JKU was 34K and that was with navigation, towing package, pretty much a lot of extras minus leather and heated seasts.

ETA: My husband's 2015 JKU Hardrock Rubicon was like 42K...and he specially ordered his with every feature he wanted.

Full size trucks and big SUVs have been ridiculously high for a while now. Tons of people still buying. I bought my 2016 Silverado at the end of the year when all the 17s were on the lot and got 12000 off the sticker and still feel like I paid too much.

When people stop financing vehicles they can't really afford then we may see a change.

I'll continue buying the bare bones models. Why the heck should I care about having navigation or all of the crazy bells and whistles when my phone basically does everything now anyways.

With advancements in car and engine tech new cars have the longest lifespan than they ever have (on top of all the digital tech integrated into them)

Less cars being sold and less used cars in the market is causing a lot of it

I feel like my generation (millennial) is playing a role in this. It seems like a lot of people prioritize having a nice vehicle over things like owning a house or contributing to a 401k. And since they have never purchased a vehicle themselves before, they have no reference for what is a good price on a vehicle.

A few years ago, a buddy of mine’s girlfriend was talking about getting a new vehicle when she finished nursing school. Her current vehicle was fine. She just wanted a new one. “It’s 35k. That’s not that bad.” Just LOL.
