Some of the people in there go voluntarily. GTFO if you have a problem with it.

and the ones that are court ordered.... we will most likely see you again. Next time (or the next) it will be by your choice.

If you make it that long, that is.

Whatever works for each person but I never understood their whole approach to it. I have had ppl tell me they teach you once a alcoholic always a alcoholic. That you are always recovering. frick that, IMO that just sets you up for failure.

I had a somewhat of a drinking problem in high school so I went to a couple of AA meetings at the behest of a teacher who's been through it all that I respected. Those meetings caused me to drink more and take xanax.

I see that point.

But for me, it is real easy to not drink. However, if i even have one sip, i want the whole bar and i am not satisfied until i pass out.

I will always be that way, i know that. I am an alcoholic.

Some people just have addictive personalities and have to learn how to cope with it. That was always my problem.

If I'm playing golf regularly I'm thinking about it most of the day. What kind of clubs I should buy, tee times I need to make, etc etc. It consumes me. Same with drinking. I've never had one drink. I drank to get drunk. So much that I couldn't sleep for almost a year when I stopped. I probably had 5+ drinks per day from 19-35. And 5 is on the low end, 10+ was far more regular.

Everyone is different and some people struggle with addiction. I fully understand and it's not really something that many can control on their own.

Key point.

I am so damn stubborn i have to do everthing on my own. When i finally realized talking to others who had similar issues, it was an epiphany. I wasnt fighting it by myself.

AA has forged so many lifelong true friendships. And it is a true frienship, i dont have to chug a fifth or frick a goat or get pushed down stairs.

I have an addictive personally too. your golf example resonates with more than you know. but I watched my father completely destroy my family after multiple failed attempts with rehab. along with many of the people he was there with. 12 step is substituting one religion for another. if you can’t control it, even with everything in your life hanging in the balance, then you can’t control it.

it’s a disease. self inflicted? sure. but a disease nonetheless. rather than turning yourself over to a higher power, how about we turn ourselves over to science. which is lacking in this area unfortunately

I found it funny at how stupid those classes were for me at the time (and they were to me). I didn't take it seriously at all. It was all about not having a misdemeanor on my record. I've made several other comments in here about struggling with substance abuse (which I have).

I'm definitely not knocking AA meetings. I didn't go to them but apparently they help some people.

I did too. Our instructor wouldn't stop telling the most insanely fricked up stories about his life, and my roommate and I couldn't stop laughing. Everyone else in the class was somehow perfectly silent.

We started drinking as soon as we got out.

How was i being a frick?

I called you a name on a message board. Junkie. Ooooooo. Maybe if that hits home so hard you should think about that.

Maybe AA wouldnt be so bad after all if you paid attention there

Man that's everything with me. Golf, alcohol, fishing, etc. I could name 20 things I've absolutely obsessed over in my life. People that don't have addictive personalities can't understand that and I envy them.
