Functioning boat trailer lights

How hard is it to have lights on your trailer that actually work?
There’s basically only 3 thing that could cause them not to work.
Bad connection (ground wire)
Blown fuse
Blown bulb
Probably 90%of trailers I see on the road don’t have any lights or just 1 works.
Who will admit that their lights don’t work properly?

my boat trailer works 100%. My utility trailer... I cant keep lights on it no matter what I do. I noticed this weekend, one of the brake / turn housings is gone. Bulbs are still there - entire outer housing and lenses are gone.

Mine work.....went to LED.

I had this problem until I went sealed LED. Finally bit the bullet and have had no problems.
After saying this the next time I use the boat it'll probably have a broken light

Before I went to LED I could rewire a boat trailer from front to back with new everything, and the next day there will be something out. Now that I went to LED I haven't had a single problem. Frick incandescent boat trailer lights.

My running lights aren't working. Can't figure it out but I honestly haven't tried very hard.
Not the fuses in my rig. They're fine. Any help?

I got 6 years trouble free on my newest boat trailer with an all LED system, given our hyper salinity waters down here that's a miracle. Plugs on the back of LED's are whats failing now, they have rubber grommets to keep water out but over that span the rubber starts to let water in then they are cooked in short order. Just ordered everything to go new from the hitch back, marine tinned copper wire and LED's all around, it was a couple hundred bucks on amazon but it will be well worth it if I can go another 5 or 6 years without crawling around on the ground trying to figure out why the lights aren't working when I should be on the road to go fishing.

How long have you been running LEDs? I'm thinking about making the switch as well.

its a poor design with trying to move the proper voltage some 20ft total across three connections minimum thru inferior wire and cheap connections. upgrade to a heavier gauge wire. Use solid connections and solder every where you can.

I agree. You’ll see so many trailers on the road with lights out.
If the harness is still good leave it alone. Go with led lights. Use the heat shrink style butt splices for the wiring, they sell them at auto zone and don’t come apart or let water/moisture in to corrode the wires. For the clearance lights where you use the quick splice connectors, add dielectric grease there. Make sure you clean the areas where the grounds go against the frame. Connect the ground off the harness by the plug to the frame of the trailer. It’s not supposed to ground on the ball of your truck. Follow those steps and you’ll be trouble free.

I've had them on my bay boat for almost a year, and the duck boat for about 8 months. Honestly it's worth every dollar. By far one of the best investments on the money pit that is a boat.

Me, but my boat only tows from the camp to the launch--about .5 miles.

All of this too

One of my lights fell off this weekend. I zip tied it back on the trailer.

They won't stay working if you jank rig a bunch of butt splices and old wire automotive wire from behind the barn to hurry up and go fishing tomorrow and stick all that shite into salt water still plugged in to the truck.
Its electrical stuff that you dunk in the water, bounce down the highway, let the squirrels chew on, etc. If you don't use good shite and do a good job putting it in it aint gonna stay working long.

When I rewired with better wiring and a ground to each end, I have never had a problem since.

its one of my pet peeves so my shite works, but they are some tricky damn things. Like you said its basic AF but damn gremlins I tell you.
I can't stand a MF with no trailer lights.
