Daytona has something going on almost every weekend, whether it be a car show or boat races. Atlanta is similar.

I know for a fact, that at Daytona, they are testing on that track 365 days a year(if possible).

Been at the dog track right next to the track, in off season and in season and there were cars going around it, practicing daily. And they also do the racing fantasy camps.

You have "NASCAR experiences" where you get to ride in or drive a vehicle on the track.

The "Richard Petty Experience" at Daytona. It was $140 for 3 laps in 2001.

Ick. It'll always be the Pepsi 400 to me.

My dad went to it when it was still the Firecracker 400 and actually started at 10 in the morning.

There's a small dirt track in the metro Atlanta area (Dixie Speedway) and even they stay busy most of the year.

At MIS, Michigan International Speedway they have music festivals and a tough mudder competition where a diarrhea epidemic got started.

Don’t forget the Rolex 24 Hour Race too. After attending that this year, I can honestly say that was the best sporting event (minus the SuperBowl) that I’ve been too. I’d prefer to go back to that than ever think about going to another Daytona 500 again.

Comparing the Rolex 24 and the Daytona 500 isn't fair IMO

With the 24, you have access to the inside of the track, around the pits, basically any seat at anytime during the race, late night racing with an empty track of fans. The 500 just has that awe of significance that transcends the 24 by a large margin. I've attended both and thoroughly enjoyed both in different respects. I've also atteneded the Coke Zero 400 and had access to a all you can eat/ drink tent and bad arse seats that I didn't have for the couple 500s I went to. It was much more relaxed

The two are very different, I just don’t think I’d put up with the hassle of the crowds, limited access, expensive cost of the 500 again. Like you said the July race is way less crowded and more relaxed. They’ve at least made the ‘cheap seats’ all have better views with the new grandstands they built.

I didn’t realize till I went this year to the Rolex 24 that it’s been run for 56 years, only 4 less than the Daytona 500. It was phenomonel, the day to night, and transition back to day racing was really cool to see.

Atlanta runs local participant drag races on pit road during the summer. They also have weekly Legends/Bandelero racing on a track that incorporates pit road and the front stretch. Add to that car shows, an air show and the stock care/exotic car driving experiences and they keep the calendar pretty full.

I am not sure if they still do it, but back in early 2000s Harley-Davidson had a contract with Talladega to use the track as a test track. You could go take the tour and be in the infield and watch guys on Harleys flying around those high banks. Was amazing, and somewhat scary.

I know the Atlanta Motor Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway both hose large music festivals. Imagine Music Festival and EDC Las Vegas, respectively. Fill up pretty much the entire track.

There used to be an off road park beside the Kentucky track and when I rode my ATV there I could hear a car testing on the track.

Didn’t that just happen once? And I would think they probably lost money on that deal figuring all the modifications they had to make for it to actually happen.
