you got played by the recruiter. they routinely string people along making them think the job is in the bag as a measure to make sure you stay interested and do the interviews... which, lead to their commission.

I know that game. Based on the conversations we had regarding salary, bonuses, benefits etc, I dont think thats the case here. Pretty sure I just blew it.

Sucks bud, but you learned a tough life lesson. I'm also impressed that you seem to be handling this pretty well given your answers throughout the thread.

Should've taken a personal day.

Honestly they may have been right to pass you over if you didn't think this interview required your undivided attention.

A lot of times hiring decisions can come down to some pretty nitpicky things. Happens all of the time and is the main reason why you need to be 100% on your game. It sounds like you didn't thoroughly prepare for your interview and just hopped on the call without even gathering your thoughts. If you weren't able to make them absolutely understand your competence and future potential then they probably just moved on to the next guy. Tough lesson but I bet the experience helps you in the future. So you got that going for you, which is nice.

Clear a window for the interview. Always.
This. Always. You never know how deep a dive the interview will take.

I have had interviews take place in California and have to fly there, drive to the site, interview and fly back to DFW. Sometimes you have to take a sick day for stuff. This is one of those times.

If they are employed, they have to make it clear when we can schedule interviews around their current job or that they are taking leave so as not to mistreat their current employer.

How would you ever know this?

Schedule the interview after work. To work all day at your current job and then do the interview after normal hours shows the prospective company you put in the time and effort to be successful. On the other hand, when I am interviewing and the candidate wont interview after hours then I know hey are just your average 9 to 5'er.

Don't take it too personally. I'm sure that supervisor had who he/she wanted to hire lined up before they ever even solicited you for the job.

It amazes me how ignorant people are about hiring practices, interview practices, etc. Most of this stuff is common sense.
