The FBI can call the local PD if they don’t have the resources. The local PD can simply knock on the door and ask questions at a minimum. Hell, there is probably enough probable cause in this case to have acquired a warrant and search the dudes house.

What, exactly, is the FBI, or any LEO, supposed to do about a comment on a YouTube video?

Giving the FBI a very hesitant benefit of the doubt, were they supposed to surveil him for over a year even aftee he was expelled?

This comes up after every shooting or terrorist attack. The fbi is useless.

They should make some attempt for extremely specific comments such as that.

that comment was dumb but it contained no specific threat

do we really want the government knocking on our door East German Police style
for every unfortunate comment put out there?

We now know the dude was a problem at his school. He was banned from bringing a backpack to school after making threats. Then he was eventually expelled and banned from campus. So even the slightest follow up with local authorities should have set off alarm bells. I'm very libertarian but at some point you forfeit the right to be left alone by the authorities.

So they FBI should have had someone following this kid 24/7 indefinitely?

Other than locking this kid up for threats, what could LEO have done to stop this?

I understand that they can't follow up on every threat made, but if they did talk to the person who notified them the next day. Couldn't they have had a LEO talk to him after they were notified. Maybe just the act of a LEO knocking on his door, and talking to him about threats he had made may have changed his mind about doing it. We will never know.

I just find it ironic to the point of terrifying on so many levels that businesses like YouTube, Twitter and Apple find entities like Prager U and Drudge Report subversive to the point of censoring them - but when people are actually advocating violence and displaying dangerous mental illness on these platforms they don't bother to take any action.

Examples: This current shooter, BLM people advocating killing cops or white people on Twitter and Facebook (example the Shooter of police in BRLA), the San Bernadino Terrorist Couple who were dead but Apple would not voluntarily hack the phone.

I think any type of digging or looking into this kid shows that he fits the mold we all clearly see him as. His social media is dark and predictive, his classmates thought he would be capable of this.

We constantly hear, see something, say something as if that’s the guise for the FBI to continually frick up, it’s on we the people for not bringing these clues to them, yet when theee concerns and raised and paint a clear picture, they do nothing with it:

Investigated. Determined if there were sufficient signs of mental illness for a psych eval.

If so, give him the option to seek help voluntarily. If he refuses, involuntary.

We know this didn't happen?

If he had that many problems at school, I guarantee he has had some type of psych evaluation.

I guarantee it didn't happen.

Note: My guarantee is based on just as much concrete evidence as yours.

They probably could have done that. I mean a threat is a threat, even if it doesn't specify a time or place. It would be enough for a search warrant and then when they discovered this 19 year old's arsenal of weapons, it would have been enough to act.

Why do we even have an FBI if they don’t do their real job and instead are used as a political weapon?

Would you rather they put a couple of agents on him and follow him around for months. Maybe they should have arrested him on suspicion.
When you have a person with this mindset you dont want to push them over the edge because the end results could be worse
