I’d just run one to a gang box somewhere. It’s not like you’re going to ever put hardwired phones in every room even if you do decide to get it in the future. Run to one spot you can put a jack in the future and be done with it.

And like others said, CAT6 to any room/wall where you could put a device that could access the internet/home network.

I can't believe you actually said that on here. Better be careful, it could get you banned.

I thought Olivia Munn figured out a way to connect over power lines?

What kind of question is this. Just have the lines run and drops installed.
Cost is low. Be sure to have network drops put in. WiFi sucks compared to hard wired connectivity.

Some enterprising person may develop a use for those lines and we can only guess what that may be.

It’s cheap now and might help resale. Don’t be such an a-hole.

Better safe than sorry im typing this on my house phone right now

Eta: on a serious note, if i werr building a new house id have conduit in the wall going to cat 5 outlets in every room. 10 years from now when all that shite is outdated and useless it will be very easy to pull it all out and change to something else. Its a small cost before the sheetrock is up and a mega PITA after

Nah but she’s working on a way to absorb sperm over the internet.

Run Cat 6 wire instead and have hardwired Ethernet instead.

My parents recently built a house they're going to retire in. When I asked what the landline number was their response was "Why the frick would we get a landline these days?"

OP, you only need one line and I would install it in the kitchen area. Reason, wireless phones, you can used the hand set anywhere in the house. BUT, here is the catch. You loose power, that phone system is dead. But, you can still buy old school corded phones that will work without power.

I still have a land line phone. It's a must for me in case of a emergence. That and I have a heart monitor up 24/7.

very good point here, fish....I recently bought a corded phone for this very reason. The folks at the store were totally puzzled when I asked for a phone with a cord!

During Katrina when towers were down for awhile, my landlines worked.

When Disaster strikes hurricanes/floods the land line (not VOIP) still works.

Cell towers go down and cell phone batteries run out of charge when there is no power.

I would definitely run a couple the cost is almost nothing you can even pull the wire yourself.

I can't argue with this. For a household, if you feel anxious about a disaster, this is a good security measure. I do like the idea of built in Cat6 throuhgout, however.

A landline is useful in the event of a hurricane because FEMA and Homeland Security restrict cell usage to texting as per Katrina and Gustav.
If you nave relatives in- and outside the US without cell phones, a landline is a great asset to let them know things are.

definitely run the wires, i did.

but im putting blank covers over the boxes rather then buy the phone plug covers.

pretty sure there is not a chance in hell i ever hook up the phone lines to the house but it cost less then $20 for me to wire up the whole house and its best to have it there for resale and/or the odd chance you might rent it one day.

Just run 2 cat-6 lines in a few of the same drops. It will give you the flexibility of multiple devices being wired if it comes up and the cat 6 can be used as phone line.

Id also suggest running drops on more than 1 wall. That way you aren't stuck if you try to move furniture around.

Very, very good advice. Helps when it comes to running new cables. Of course, you gotta leave a pull string in it.

I don't remember how it exactly worked but I bundled home phone with 2 other att/directv services and ended up saving about 20 bucks a month on my internet/tv services. I never plugged a phone in to the jack but just having it saved me that little bit.
