I can see how it would be annoying to feel bombarded with social justice-focused storylines, but how is it really ruining everything?
The black kid and lesbian girl are the best part of the show. There's really not much to criticize about that storyline besides "I don't wanna see no interracial gay shite."

Lilith Fair called to remind you there were definitely burgeoning lesbians in the 90s.
Obviously, but I can also understand where everyone is coming form that's complaining about this sort of thing.
It's getting to the point where every single TV show HAS to have some sort of underlying political messages. I watch TV to get away from those sorts of things, even the messages I agree with.

I think we’re at the point where having gay or interracial couple isn’t really a political message. There’s nothing controversial about it.

Speaking of ruining everything there’s some guy that posted a spoiler on the first page of a thread not marked as spoilers and he didn’t even put a spoiler alert on the post. And now even editing his post won’t work because people replied to him about the spoiler.
Regarding the show, I didn’t last but 15 minutes because I found the nostalgia forced and the characters not compelling. It was really bad.

This. And because it’s no big deal to have those characters and storylines now, creators are using them to be different from shows of the past. It’s an easy way to make your show different from Freaks and Geeks or whatever. Plus, like it or not those storylines speak to a lot of people. Plus, I’m sorry, TV/movie lesbians are hot.

I wish I did not have to see that ending scene in episode 1. Over all though, it's entertaining and I love the soundtrack. Will continue watching. got through 3 episodes.

so when did drama club become the new jocks? Or is this Hollywood rewriting history to fit how they think it should be?
Posted on 2/18/18 at 4:58 pm to Puck82
It wasn't ever, and it isn't now. That's the point. AV Club was for losers.

Wasn’t referencing av. They portray the drama club as kings of the school.

I just finished the season and I would recommend it. It got better as it went along.

Keep watching. It actually is pretty enjoyable to watch. The lesbian and black kid are pretty good actors. This show definitely has heart.

Maybe it was on the West Coast? No idea.

I’m feeling the opposite.
Got to the episode with the Tori Amos concert and had to turn it off. Everything is over the top and cheesy as hell. The relationship with Luke’s mom and the principal is beyond terrible.

Too bad cuz it gets better from there.

I binged the series and enjoyed it for what it was. It being only 25 minute episodes helped immensely. Hour long episodes would have been just too much.
Nice little nostalgia blast. I love the soundtrack.
Spoilers:
Left off at a decent cliffhanger with Luke's dad coming back (although I don't see much of the dad in Luke).
Also, I'm sure Emaline will break it off with Kate soon as she's just an attention whore and Kate told her what she wants to hear and feeds her insecurities.

I watched the first 3.
It's extremely "meh" to me. Don't hate it, don't love it. It's...fine.
I'm not sure if I'm going to keep watching

Show hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought from the previews. I was really expecting it to be awful but wanted to give it a shot since I grew up in the 90s.
It isn't amazing, but it is pretty decent. A bit cheesy at times.

Spoiler alert maybe?
I'm not saying it's the best show ever, but I will say the hardest I've laughed in a long time was when they are discussing Showgirls and one nerd says she "shows her things" and the Dustin from Stranger Things ripoff yells out "and her pussy too!" I about pissed myself laughing. Must have rewatched that scene 5 times and kept laughing every time.

Like I said previously, it gets better halfway thru.

I watched the first several episodes, but I had to quit because almost every scene is a cringe.
