I have rental units in the lower 9 and it's not bad at all.

Most of the east is the absolute worst. Eastover and Venetian Isles are exceptions to that.

Definitely drafting this area early in my fantasy city-wide draft now.

These threads are always good for determining who actually lives in the area and who does not.

The only acceptable and correct answer, as of Feb 2018, is Central City.

You would get partial credit if you said the 7th and 8th wards between the river and Florida Ave.

The only problem with the Lower 9 these days is all the smelly Bohemians that want to change the world there.

The east has nothing.

The problem is "The East" is this massive stretch of average nothingness. No jobs, not much retail, no real reason to want to go there, etc.

The East isn't particularly unsafe... it just looks horrible. The East is basically a collection of "Good" Section 8 tenants, who don't destroy their rentals and kill people, but don't have enough money to live anywhere else, and the slum lords know they can let it go to hell.

That area behind the Mickey D’s on Carrollton is really bad. Also, East, Florida/Desire, pockets of Upper and Lower 9

I drive around New Orleans most of my day. The most shadiest areas I see are Uptown. The East has crime, but it’s a lot of older people that live there so for the most part it’s peaceful. I’ve never feared for my life in the East like I have Uptown.

Unless you're going down many blocks on MLK down to Magnolia St., etc., which is basically Central City, I would disagree. Uptown has most of what I feel are the safest areas of New Orleans. I know what you're saying though for the blocks much further away from St. Charles though.

However, Dowman road looks like an a nuclear bomb just hit it. That seems like the best place to possibly get murdered, followed by some other random places in the East, then South Claiborne (downtown) and South Broad (just about anywhere). There are obviously other scary parts though. The East seems the scariest because if something happens, you feel like you're an hour away from any help. You're only a few blocks away from help Uptown or in other spots.

Mickey D's on Canal is the worst. You better order that Quarter Pounder wearing some Kevlar.

Broke down in the middle of the day in the ninth ward once with my ex gf. Older black guy came up on me asking me what the frick I was doing. Told him I broke down and he gave me this wonderful piece of advice, “Get the frick out of here before dark or you’re dead and your girl is gonna be raped”. He stayed with me until AAA showed up thankfully.

Lower 9th actually has more hope. Lots of cleared real estate to build on.
