People are confusing lawless with crime ridden. Places like Chicago or NO would be some of the last places I would choose to hide a body or rob a bank.

I think Cameron Parish could give anywhere a run for its money.
Going offshore years ago, I was stopped right in front of the school that was demolished from the Hurricane. There is a road that goes to the docks there and there used to be a Shell station on the opposite corner of the school.
Im doing 40mph, and the speed limit is 35. The cop was a young guy in his 20s. I asked him why he stopped me and he said " I was barreling through the town"
I told him I was doing 40 and he said I was going much faster than that. I asked him what the radar said, and he told me he didnt have a radar. I knew this cat was FOS so I waited for the warning that was coming.
I would have fought it had he given me a ticket. With no radar it was his word against mine. I know the courts like to side with a cop but I would have paid whatever it cost to beat it.

Slab City in the middle of the California desert. No law enforcement. All gypsy people. A real shithole.
An enclave of anarchy.

New Orleans East, and it's not even close.

Not saying they are criminals or anything but I just don’t know how you enforce much in the Alaskan interior. The remoteness of it all lends itself to a natural lawlessness I would think.
May have told my late Aunt's story here before:
She moved to Alaska around 1940-ish. One of her husbands (she outlived several) worked the oilfield and they lived in a cabin on the permafrost. No need for refrigeration on the permafrost, just store foods and stuff on enclosed porch.
Well, her husband left her with the sick infant twins and a small toddler to work his 6 on the rig. One night a guy starts trying to break in the cabin. Aunt told the guy she'd shoot through the door if he didn't stop. Told him food, clothes, whatever he wanted/needed was all right there, take it and leave. Guy kept trying to break in.
So, Aunt shoots through the door with 12 ga loaded with buckshot. Blew a hole through the door AND the guy. Said she looked out the hole and saw him lying dead on the snow.
Next morning she loaded the kids into the pickup and drove the 20 miles to town for the sheriff. Sheriff followed her back home. Took one look at the guy. Told her: "No worries, he's an escapee. Help me load him into my truck." They tossed his frozen corpse into the truck bed and off the sheriff went never to be heard from again.

I'd say somewhere throughout some of the Western states.

United States? Look up the Gloucester people, weird bunch of people out there. Was camping with a Chesapeake police officer and he was saying the local police won’t enter their land

Agreed here. I grew up in Clewiston. Belle Glade/Pahokee is the most lawless place on the earth.
