XFL may never see the light of day but it got me thinking what rules in the NFL would i change if i were drawing it up from scratch.

1) running clock with extra added on for stoppage like in soccer

2) No kicking an extra point. you have to go for 2.

3) Pass interference is not a spot foul. 15 yards and an automatic 1st down.

4) incidental grabbing of a facemask isn't a penalty

5) get rid of the horse collar penalty

not sure what to change about instant replay. outside the box idea. take it out of the refs hands and let the viewing audience vote.

. That rule is good for amateurs. For professionals, spot foul is the only way.

All they have to do is go to what the NFL was like pre-2005ish

Clock stoppages for every 1st down- I want more football, not less for my time.

Stringent enforcement of illegal contact rules downfield for receivers. Either have them or don't, but enforce whatever the rule might be.

Reduce the requirement of players on the LOS for legal formations, to add some creativity and diversity to the game, without having to radically alter the play style.

Shorten the play clock to 35 seconds.

Irony. The original XFL was based on the pre-2005ish rules being too "pussified"

Get rid of replay

No halftime

Only call penalties that affect the play

1. No fair catches allowed
2. The play clock should be shortened to 35 seconds
3. No two minute warning
4. You get five timeouts total to use anytime during the game.
5. Keep NFL point after.
6. No overtime in the regular season. Make teams try to win the game in regulation. OT in playoffs consists of 10 minutes that you play all ten minutes.

DO NOT adopt the college rules of clock stopping after a first down and keep pass interference a spot foul.

1 point conversion from the 1 yard line
OR
1 point for a kick from the 25 yard line (42 yard field goal)
OR
2 point conversion from the 3 yard line
OR
2 points for a kick from the 35 yard line (52 yard field goal

Even though almost everything you say is nonsensical, this statement is particularly retarded.

With pros you assume the catch would happen without the interference Bc they are, you know, professionals.

12 minute quarters

Safety is worth 5 points

Defensive TD is worth 8 points

Field goals are based off distance:
40 yds and less = 2 points
41-55 yds = 3 points
56-65 yds = 4 points
66 yds + = 5 points

College overtime but you start at the 50.

No more illegal formations.

If a lateral is used on a touchdown play, then the team that scored gets an extra point for it.

5 downs to get 15 yards. Instead of 4 to get 10. For some reason I have believed that will generate exciting offensive and defefensive plays.

No halftime. Just 5 minute breaks between quarters. Get all your commercials in during those breaks.

Let the receiver and defensive backs play.

No PAT kicks.

1 point conversion from the 1 yd line
2 point conversion from the 3 yd line
3 point conversion from the 5 yd line
4 point conversion from the 8 yd line
5 point conversion from the 15 yd line.

If you change the rules about the way points are awarded then it keeps fans in the game and makes it more interesting. For instance your team is down by 12 with 1:30 left. Other team is trying to run they clock out and they fumble and your team scoops n scores. Your team can now grab a win if they can pull off a 5 point conversion from the 15 yard line or tie it from 8 yd line with a 4 point conversion.

Instead of a coin toss have kickers decide it. Longest field goal decides who gets the ball. Make it like horse, start at the 45 yd range and work your way up.

Spot fouls on pass interference could be adjusted to where it’s a spout foul to where if it happens on your side of the field then it’s a spot foul up to the 50, once you are in your opponents side of the field it becomes just a ten yard penalty.

Semi-pro leagues should have a mix of college and pro rules especially if they are gonna take in 18 year olds.

I’d like something to shift he balance of power back a bit toward the defense.

I’m OK with PI still being a spot foul. But how bout make holding on the offense a loss of the down plus the yards?

I think it should be really off the Wall with crazy rules.

Bonus for long TDs and/or FGs.
One five down series for each team per game.
Special colored ball that gets bonus pts if you complete 5 straight passes in a row when you use it.

Stupid shite like that. Incorporate FF rules, Canadian rules, NFL rules, arena rules, rugby

We already have enough “normal” rules football.
