The NFL scouts came to the campus to check out a WR. They stayed because of the kicker.

Why Division II kicker Cole Tracy was pegged as LSU’s solution

“A concern for them was ‘Has he kicked in front of big crowds?'” Chesney said. “So he decided to exercise his fifth year. Oklahoma State and LSU flew him out the next week.

“He doesn’t do kicker lifts. He lifts with the team,” Chesney said. “He does squats and lifts. If you do everything with the team,

Fortunately, neither Tracy nor the team missed many kicks. He nailed 27 of 29 field goals this season, including a long of 53. He also hit all 67 of his extra-point attempts for the Greyhounds’ powerful offense.

Connor Culp and Jack Gonsoulin were a combined 16 for 27 on field-goal attempts and 40 for 43 on extra-point tries.

Chesney is convinced that the SEC is not the last stop in Tracy’s career — just the next stop.

“He is that good.”

Kickers are a weird bunch. I'd suggest keeping him away from our other kickers so they don't rub off on him

A kicker. A fricking kicker is the solution at LSU. Still, not rock bottom yet.

Hi T-Derek, 6 games into next season you may be looking at going back to radio.

Maybe we should offer their OC, he put up 67 TDs.

I hope it works out and understand why Ogeron burned a scholarship on a 1 year kicker (though I disagree with doing so at the expense of a potentially impactful 3-4 year player at another position). But the scouts were right to be concerned -- kicking in high pressure situations in front of 90k+ in the stands and millions more watching on TV is FAR different than kicking in front of maybe a few thousand people.

Maybe neither one will ever be worth a damn, but I think the struggles of the two kickers this past season were almost entirely mental. With it being their first years as starters it is somewhat understandable. Nothing can fully prepare you for the pressure of kicking at LSU for the first time and fair or not, I think O did a poor job of managing the psyche of his kickers by expressly and publicly throwing them under the bus on numerous occasions. Those guys were already feeling the pressure of playing the ONE position in football where you are expected to be perfect. It doesn't really help build your confidence when your HC is telling anyone who will listen that your aren't any good and need to be replaced starting almost at the beginning of the season (you can feel that way privately, but why say it publicly while the season is still going on?)

Having a money kicker is crucial. Alabama almost lost the championship because pappanasty bricked them.

+27-30 points and this team gets to 10 wins.
