Pretty much. Everyone on both sides need to get out of their respective bubbles more. In real life, I'm not really as liberal as I present myself on here. I live in a very conservative area, and am surrounded by very conservative people. Most of my friends are conservative. I do get surprised sometimes at the closed-mindedness and ignorance they sometimes display, but I know most of them to be good people so I don't harp on it. I'm sure the same happens to conservatives that live in liberal bubbles.

That's not a fact at all. It's certainly true that exposure to different ideals can facilitate change, but that change often is becoming more conservative, not more liberal.
This may be the dumbest fricking statement I've ever seen here. How do you explain the fact that each generation is more progressive then?

LOL do you honestly think the republicans represent the middle class.
Well buddy I can assure you neither party gives a flying shite about the well being of anyone that can't line their pockets. Elected officials get into politics with meager means of living and come out wealthy, this goes for both parties. They care about pandering for votes and making side deals that favor their bank accounts.

Liberals have a superiority complex?
Yup.
Liberals believe any and all disagreement with them MUST be motivated by an ism.
I think liberal ideas are stupid.
Liberals think conservative ideas are evil.
THAT is the superiority complex.
quote:Are you daft? You are SUPPOSED to try and UNDERMINE the views of your opposition. THAT is perfectly normal. I can only assume you have a bit of intellect problem if you don't see the difference between undermining views and trying to prevent them from even being heard.
Yet you voted in a guy who multiple times a day publicly attempts to undermine or belittle the views of his opposition

(1) Impossibility of an absolute rights-based property system given the need to access services and existence of indivisible commons, which moved me from a "privatize the roads" minarchist to a vague pragmatic libertarian-conservatism.
(2) Peace with the welfare state, or the realization that "let them die" isn't possible without autocracy and its concomitant restrictions on civil liberties, and I valued that lack of autocracy more than that fraction of my take-home.
(3) Reading historians and social science authors and finding, in general, the left narrative on cultural issues such as race to be more persuasive. 200 years of slavery + 100 years of Jim Crow >>> 50 years of college admissions bonuses.
I've elaborated on all of these in different posts, I think, and I've gotta go run to the body shop, and this is probably a troll thread anyway. But might as well sum it up.

It's easy to sit back and say Democrats hate America when you don't associate with any Democrats. Once you get to know us, I think y'all would realize that we're not bad people. Most republicans continue to come off as bitter and overall just not happy people.
I’m sorry... but... just... dang.
Republicans come off as bitter? You have liberals actually screaming at the sky over a presidential election and republicans are bitter? You have liberals rioting, burning, destroying, and assaulting people just because of who is speaking and that someone attended the event and Republicans are bitter? You have and entire movement called “resist” just because your candidate didn’t get elected..... you have idiots trying to introduce articles of impeachment with zero proof of any crimes.... you have idiots that will not attend the State of the Union because of who won the election...you have hacks in the justice department who have been caught tipping the scales and possibly actually conspiring against an elected president...you have a fake dossier funded by liberals to attempt to discredit the elected president of the United States....you have liberals in University’s actually teaching that if you are a white male you are automatically privileged and should acknowledge that... you have leaders in the legislature openly lying, scaremongering, and spreading propaganda that a tax cut will cause people to die....leftist comedians are holding likenesses of the severed head of the president... and on and on and on.
And conservatives are bitter??
You can’t even associate with liberals on left leaning campuses without being shouted down, harassed, threatened, and assaulted. So how exactly does a conservative associate with liberals on the campus of Berkeley? In San Fran? Portland?

Have you not noticed how your side views white males?
The barrage of insults?
I think you just accept it as fact. It doesn’t seem racist or insulting to you because you buy into it.

I became educated. I read. I traveled a lot out of the South and Mississippi. Also, moved to a big city. Realized Baptist preachers don't know everything.
You should be honest when you do yourself a favor and re-educate. And what the heck do preachers have to do with anything regarding your voting?
My question for liberals is: Do you honestly believe those in charge of your party are altruistic in -today's- age in terms of illegals, minority groups, and fighting for social justice? Also, and similarly, do you really think republican/conservative officials are against those social justice causes? You obviously know that it attracts votes to your side. But do you -really- think those in charge of that side are, by and large, genuinely interested in its constituents on a personal level or not?
Because, I couldn't vote for people that don't believe what they preach.

Liberals are the fricking worst.
They have infiltrated the democrat party and abandoned us who are just left of center or center line folk.
It's bullshite.

For the most part, yes.

Before 2016, I didn't. Trump ushered in a new paradigm and slowly Republicans have capitulated to his view. He gives absolutely no shite about the less fortunate.

You have to want to travel and experience other things. Being forced to move to Ohio for a pipe fitter job and trying to say you’ve traveled is quite different.

How, as a white male, did your views shift toward the left?
How were you convinced to vote for candidates of the Democratic Party?
It is something my mind can't seem to grasp.
For me I think it really all started with the Iraq war. It was clearly a horrible idea from jump and G Dub-Cheney were obviously lying their asses off about it, even going so far as to say there was a connection between Iraq and Bin Ladin.
