A crashing sound like something falling, similar to a hanging picture. Searched the house, couldn’t find anything, decided to go to the bathroom before returning to bed. I saw the potty fan cover on the toilet seat, and the fan on fire.

Had a racoon that was got up on one of my birdfeeders that's five feet outside my bedroom window. He banged into the bell that was supposed to keep him from getting up there a couple of times. It sounded like someone was dragging something across the sidewalk out there. I jumped up and shined a strong flashlight around until I found him. After finding him, I shined it in his face and knocked on the window. He just looked at me like He was really annoyed. I had to go out the door to get him to leave. He was back the next night. Put this out the third night.

He's gone now.

A bear in my kitchen, posted about it on the OB at the time. Pushed the front door open and went for the trash

A few years ago my daughter (about 4 at the time) had a bad dream and screamed out like I’d never heard her before.
I sleep hard and normally don’t get woken up by her. My wife usually has to deal with that kind of stuff.
Anyway, I freak out run out the room, falling into walls and doors and tripping over shite thinking someone was legit trying to pull her though the window.
I get there and she’s sound asleep.

Scared the frick out of me.

In high school I woke up sitting on the toilet a level down from my room to a cat outside screeching. The amount of confusion and horror was insane.

A few years ago an earthquake woke me up.

Turns out it was just an explosion about 40 miles away at Camp Minden.

We bought and restored an old cotton plantation house and I still own it and we go stay there a couple times a month.

It was built in 1849 and it’s a great place but creepy shite happens there.
Water faucets turn on in the middle of the night, doors slamming.

One night I was going to get a beer and one of my kids toy trucks rolled down the hall as I walked by.

Found old pictures in the closet when we were fixing up the place of people being hanged from the giant live oak in the front yard.

I suggest seeking out a sleep specialist if you’re screaming loud enough to wake yourself up. You’re just lucky that you live in the whitest County in Michigan, as you’ve noted before (I think).

My wife woke me up one night, a few nights before Christmas and said someone was in the house.

I grab my pistol and get up.

Once I worked my way to the kitchen from the back of the house I found the back door open. Which is right by the stairs to go downstairs. Now I had to go check the basement. I handed my wife a rifle and told her to stand at the top of the stairs and shoot anyone that wasn't me that she saw.

I finally search the basement and all is clear so I start yelling at my wife that everything is okay and to put the rifle down.

Wanted to make sure she didn't shoot me

What are the strangest, craziest, scariest noises that have woken you up?

Waking up to the murder of my neighbor by a large caliber pistol has to be my most notable and traumatic wake-up call.
This was literally 20 feet from my bedroom window. I ran out to see him die. He looked at us(a neighbor was BRPD and ran out too) helplessly and faded away.

They're creepy as frick ain't they?! Were about to renovate the attic/guest room where my aunt some 100 years ago hung herself.

We were moving some old furniture around and found notes she had scratched into the plaster on the wall. shite like "please forget me when I'm gone" and "sorry for everything".

Furniture moving. Doors openinf/closing, shite gives me the heeby jeebys just thinking about it lmao

The "hunting cabin" honestly isn't much better. It was a slave quarters that was repurposed several times until it is what it is now

We’ve gotten used to some of the things that go on but I can’t rationalize the faucets turning on.

same. Don't think we've had the water turn on. Have had lights cut on by themselves and an old wind up clock start chiming when it hadn't been wound up though.
