Idea was prompted by reading the La La Land thread.

For me, the most powerful one was probably Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. For me, that movie captured the intensity that love can reach and the pain that that intensity can sometimes bring.

500 days of summer is way up there, but honestly, if you take out all the stripper stuff, the original Magic Mike is actually an incredible, semi-dark relationship movie.

All those swooning women went to see it and what they got was actually a pure Soderbergh movie about a guy trying to make it in life and trying to hang on to his youth for just a bit longer, then he meets a different kind of girl who doesn't really care about all that stuff.

Look at your downvotes, man. Your points were utterly ridiculous and delusional.

Depends on what you mean by relationship movie.

500 Days is the best of the rom com type concepts for me. Had a lot of heart and was able to avoid so many cliches.

Eternal Sunshine to me is more a great movie with a relationship in it. It was Black Mirror before Black Mirror.

The African Queen. A better allegory for marriage has never been put to screen.

The end of this movie makes it perfect. And it's by far Anniston's best role.

frick there's some good ones on here.

500 Days is probably my top one with it nearly mirroring my on and off 5 year relationship.

About Time is fantastic but I would say the relationship is more about a father and his son

Definitely Maybe is also a great one.

I will add another that is good but infuriating, Five-year Engagement with Segel and Blount. The selflessness on one side versus the selfishness on the other.
