When you don't support local businesses you hurt your community
The last time I shopped at Best Buy (Covington, La) was actually in December several years ago to purchase an accessory for a digital camera. The local salesperson assured me that , "if he was incorrect about their compatibility then I could come right back with it for a 'no hassle' refund." My camera was just outside in the car, but local store security refused to allow me to bring said camera in and open the prepackaged item to try it out. I went outside in the freezin' frikkin' parking lot to attach the equipment and immediately discovered it would not work. Re-entered store and same local salesperson directed me to head to stand in the back of a lengthy return line.
I now support my local community by teaching short-sighted sales associates and the managers that hire them to find new employment, perhaps packing and delivering orders for online shops that only force me to type when they get something wrong.

Glad you pieces of shite that like to hurt local businesses have to pay your share
Do these local businesses deliver to my house? Yeah, I didn't think so.
Did you ever think that some people are homebound and can't get to the local business? naw, you were too busy calling people a POS.
Well good luck to Louisiana on collecting taxes on items that were purchased from our household. We got a prepaid debit card in our dogs name and HE makes all of the purchases.

So I bought a gift card for my wife in Louisiana. She uses it in Mississippi. She is taxed in MS. How does that work?
Don't think you have anything to worry about because there's no sales tax on gift cards even when bought in-store. Taxes get added on when the gift card is used to make a purchase.

The answer is
The answer is that the assholes sent me a frigging tax notice to my actual mailing address today. Thankfully, I found the statement in the mailbox before my wife, but that's some bullshite. All over the State's share of sales tax on $79.00 worth of cigars.
Interesting aside: I bought way more than $79.00 worth of cigars last year. In fact, I think the statement may only reflect the purchases made in December/November 2017.

Not sure about individuals, but if a business buys goods out of state and brings them back to La, do they not owe a "use" tax?
Yes

newegg sent me a list of purchases. I'm glad they don't know about all the other online purchases.

Amazon pays LA tax?
Looks like we dont have to worry about Amazon. This article from 2016 states Amazon automatically pays LA sales tax on purchases shipped to LA

About 15 years ago my dad talked me into buying one of those boxes with like 20 shitty cigars in it online. Well the state caught wind of it somehow and sent me a nasty letter saying I owed like $300 in taxes. I went back and forth with them for like a year and finally sent them a check for the right amount. Then about a month later they sent me a check back for the full amount and said I overpaid. Never heard from them again. If that was any sign of things to come it will be a huge clusterfrick.

So I got one of these from new egg but the purchase was made for work under my personal account using the work credit card. How will they deal with things like this?

Only on purchases from Amazon. If it's from a third part vendor and Amazon is merely fulfilling the order they won't collect the tax.
