Raising Cane's orders their chicken from Tyson.
Indoor dogs were present in the 1980s, but far less prevalent compared to today’s norms.

The shift toward indoor pets tracked alongside the growth of mainstream pet stores. Pet spending in the U.S. grew from about $2 billion in 1985 to over $20 billion by the early 2000s. In 2024, pet owners spent $152 billion.

I had to call for guidance on an amended tax return. I knew I'd be on hold for awhile.. one hour and 25 minutes in, this diversity hire picks up - she's mumbling something to herself, I had to say hello a couple times figuring her earpiece wasn't working or something. She finally says "thank you for calling the IRS, how may I help" so I told her the situation and my one specific question. The line goes dead. I'm thinking oh hell no..

Here is a tip: Call later in the day when there is less call volume. You will get a rep on the West Coast. The turnover in the call centers is very high. Based on my previous statement, getting a good rep is going to be a roll of the dice.

Someone mentioned they had hired 87,000 agents. That is incorrect. They haven't hired them yet. They are currently trying to do that over, I believe, five years. There are a ton of new agents in training now. Congress made a deal with the IRS to raise the threshold for individuals and small businesses to obtain funding for the new agents.

No agent will admit they are because they know it is one of the most hated professions.

You may not like to hear this, but most of the revenue agent managers are not DIE (DEI) hires. Most of them look like Brian Kelly. Most of the women don't want to be managers. If you took a photo of the rank-and-file agents, it would look like the United Nations with all the new hires.

You don't think Washington State +3.5 is a trap? An unranked team vs. a (13) ranked team and you're getting 3.5 points!!

Unfortunately, I don't use any protein powder now.

Anyone found out that their preworkout or protein powder is causing breakouts? I was reading some articles about whey protein being the possible culprit.

I also struggled with back acne. I looked into acne treatments and discovered that whey protein could be the issue. I was hesitant to stop using whey protein, but I was desperate to eliminate my acne. After 6–8 months of not using whey protein, the acne was gone for good.

I've never worked for the government.

But in my private work, the pension maxed at 80% of my annual pay (10 best years compensation) after working for the company for 30 years. Under 30 years just pro-rates against the 80% cap.

You are working off a low number at $40k assuming no promotion.

Shoving $15k aside of the extra $20k compensation into a 401k just appears much more attractive than waiting until 62 to receive $32,000/yr plus the cola adjustments.
And as you said, receiving the pension isn't available until 62 at the earliest.

If government pensions are significantly better than that, I would love to learn more.

The OP pension is 75% of annual pay (5 best years) for 30 years and 2.5% for every year to 40 years 100%.

There is no way he will be making 40K. I make more than double that and I've been here 10 years.

He has the option to purchase additional years and cash out early and take an actuarially reduced retirement. Depending on how many years he purchase he can offset the early retirement.

Thanks for the response, but the pension isn’t nearly what it used to be. Plus I wouldn’t be able to take it out fully until 62 and idk if I will live that long.

Unfortunately, new hires are under the new rules for retirement. The age to receive a pension increased just as the age to receive SSI.

Yeah we work really hard. My supervisor is awesome also we get along great I would stay in excise just for her. I think the minimum is 18 audits a year. I read some state workers do like 2, such a joke

That's great that you have a good supervisor. I would caution against making a career decision based on that alone. There will be a lot of changes during your time here. For example, when I first began working here, the taxes were not split up into different groups, and 12 audits were required. Each auditor was able to work on multiple taxes. Out-of-state requirements are 17 audits, but hopefully, they will be reduced.

shite man. I picked excise last choice but they gave me it. Oh well I’m not gonna complain.

You are not bound to a particular tax. After the conclusion of your probationary period, you are eligible to apply for another tax. To avoid wasting time on a tax in which you have no interest, I recommend doing it as soon as possible after becoming eligible. Be careful not to fall into the trap of being a typical government worker. That is because we will ask your boss and AD what kind of employee you are.

Income
Sales
Excise
In that order. If we are talking about transferable to the private sector.

Ok I talked to my supervisor about that. Im definitely gonna move there at some point. Houston or Dallas. But MBA is main thing i should do right now, right ?

I wouldn't talk to your supervisor about transferring. Yes if you want to increase your salary MBA should be your focus along with learning as much as you can.

Thanks for the info, yup I looked at the PPM’s. I actually got my accounting degree while working for the department of revenue. An MBA would get me a promotion like you said. The monthly housing stipend is super neat, I work for the state of Louisiana.

Yes. They have positions available in Houston if you're interested but I believe you have to wait until you're out of probation to be eligible. Your options will increase if you transfer to Texas. There have been auditors that have left to work for various companies in Texas if you want.

Yeah cool man I’m a tax auditor also. I am debating on applying for the internal audit job. To be honest the work is kind of stressing me out. I’ve been there 5 months and I’m working on a bunch of audits. I love my boss and coworkers so far but the pay is terrible (40k). What would you do if you were me ?

It depends on which state you work for. For me, I had the option to transfer out of state, where they pay a monthly housing stipend. Also, I got an MBA while I was working here. They will increase your salary with the completion of an MBA. Contact your HR department or download the HR manual to see if they offer any incentives. Doing those two things along with promotions has increased my salary by 50k and I've been working as an auditor for 10 years. I don't know which state you work for to be of any more help.

Would you rather have a 40k state government job as a tax auditor with good benefits and a nice pension if you stuck around

I'm a tax auditor with the state government. You're not going to be an OT baller, but it's decent pay with job stability. There is some truth to the perception that government employees are lazy, but I used that to my advantage and was able to advance. I'm assuming 40K is the starting salary. If so, your salary will increase, and your pension will be based on your last five years of employment. Also, with state employment, you can contribute to a 457B.

You're missing the big picture. It's just rice but where does it end if there is no pushback against the name changes.
