For the, " He hasn't been an OC in 20 years" crowd

I am not trying to be positive or negative on the hire. Just wanted to inject a little subjectivity.
SE used to be the guy that HC's brought to "fix" things on Offense. Consequently, when things were beyond repair he ended up getting fired with entire staffs. The life style, while financially rewarding, was hard on a family. But he's a coach and loves it. So he started coaching High School ball. He was quite happy coaching and living in his hometown of Central. When LSU came calling he answered because at the time it was a stable situation and it was his Alma mater. Relatively certain that SE decided years ago that he wasn't going anywhere no matter who came calling and everyone in coaching has known this. If you can accuse him of anything, it's not being as mercenary as the majority of his peers.

Your post loses merit being as you didn't realize he was coaching at Smiths Station in Alabama before Les threw him a bone.
He wasn't brought in to Auburn to fix an offense and he wasn't brought into LSU to fix an offense. Despite what you want to tell yourself, there is a reason he hasn't been a full time OC in, you guessed it, 20 years.
ETA: Oh, and he was a passing game coordinator at Smiths Station. The man couldn't even make OC at a High School.

The only thing I'm accusing him of is not being qualified to be the coordinator, and not having the ability to run the offense at a high level.

At least for me, I'm over it now. I don't agree with the decisions, but they've been made and I now just hope they work out well. I read today that they're looking to be more of a passing team that exploits our talent at WR. Ok, fine. I'm skeptical, though, that we even know what scheme we have. In my opinion, the administration and Orgeron have bet on a high-risk proposition. I hope it works, but if it doesn't they need to be held to account for it.

RC Slocum fired him in 1996 with cause. It wasnt the same as a coaching staff turnover. Losing to USL and going 6-6 as a top ranked team to start played into that.
His offense at Clemson was just bad period.

Other than pure speculation, you know this how?
Because without evidence backing this up, this is pure spin to try and make this look like a quality hire.
And let's be completely honest here...even if this was 100% TRUE, it would STILL make him a bad hire given that he has not been behind the wheel of the car at this level for 2 decades.

Can we dig up the corpse of Bear Bryant? He may have something left in the tank.

False.

Also false.

The reason we don't know what offensive system the Tigers will implement is, it's a secret.
Never heard of the "Secret Play Book". Apparently we are going to finally see it.

If it were SE solely, I would be more neutral, but I have some faith in the combination of SE and Sullivan

Are there any examples of when a coordinator has had this long of a layoff in being a full time coordinator and has performed at an elite level?
Man, we just love these long shot ideas.
We hire a bad HC; "But he COULD be great you know? You can't tell the future."
We hire an underwhelming OC; "Give him a chance, he COULD be amazing, you know? You can't tell the future."
No I can't tell the future but what's the most likely outcome? These are two underwhelming hires.

You can’t possibly believe this? Fine tuned and clicking on all cylinders? This was a perceived safe hire by an idiot that was afraid of looking like an idiot! I didn’t think our offense could get anymore ordinary with a boatload of talent! Our offense will underperform, again!

Funniest part about this crowd is as soon as any actually qualified candidate with real potiential has a bad game or season they use it as a rallying cry. "SEE!! THIS GUY IS A FRAUD!!!"
LSUs coaches resume is irrelevant. But everyone else is only as good as their last loss.

Other than him being popular in Central, nothing you posted is true. Nothing.

So he was the fixer who never really fixed things.
