Advice on stalking deer with a bow

Would like to give this a shot next season. Any recommendations (literature, videos, etc.) on this method of hunting. Specifically, it would help if it were relevant to densely wooded areas where the ability to spot would be limited.

Good luck. That's the toughest deer hunt there is. I imagine it is immensely rewarding but I've never killed a deer doing it.

I feel like the guys on The Hunting Public (youtube channel) did this on a few hunts.

On whitetail? Not gonna happen most likely.
You need to be able to spot them from a distance and then approach down wind to within 50 yards without them seeing or hearing you. It's one thing if you maybe know where they bed, but you have to see them well before they would be alerted by you.
This is done in wide open or at least more open areas a lot easier, as you can see the deer from further away. No idea how you could do this in the southern woods.
Why not try it on hogs? Hogs eyesight is pretty bad, you can routinely see them at 75-100 yards away before they see you.

i HAVE done this and it is as rewarding as tiring. The main issues are that you have to have a semi clear path that you already know..think of a sandy creek bed or a well worn path. You have to get there way before dawn and you have to go in extrememly quietly. I would go in 30 min before dawn and kneel down till dawn. In woods..along a "clear" path. Always have arrow notched and never move horizontally - that breaks your outline. Your bow is always in front of you. I have had plenty of deer spot me but not be able to figure me out because I was still and showed no horizontal movement. The hardest thing is to watch every step you make and move extremely slowly...thats why you have to have a good idea deer are in the area...cause you aint gonna be going far with a 3-4 hour "walk". EXTREMELY satisfying. And btw I always hunt on public land....

Once, nearing the end of my hunt, I unnotched the arrow to get thru some bramble...I was off my known path. About three fourths of the way thru a trophy 8 point almost ran over me...could not notch up quickly enough. That was the only 30 seconds I had my arrow un notched...

I killed an 8 pt Thursday still hunting at 20 yds. It was with a rifle but could have sealed the deal with my bow easily. This was on private land. Friday shot a seven point on public land at 40 yds still hunting. Both deer came to a grunt call. It can most definitely be done. After a rain when the leaves are soft or when you have a decent wind blowing is best. You also have to move painfully slow and watch every step you take. Moving 100yds per hour I believe is about the speed you need to be moving.

i've shot deer stalking with a rifle/primitive weapon multiple times but the shot was taken less than 40 yards from me(so i imagine a bow would have been possible). My advice, find feed trees(for instance mine were north of where i entered woods), wait for a big north wind and creep as slow/stealth as possible(i did it wearing orange in a wma and still killed 2 mid day)

Common misbelief.
Hogs see quite well and see in color unlike deer. However, they are generally looking down at the ground.

They definitely aren't very observant when you can stalk up on them from 120 yards away and get a 15 yard shot...in an open field.

Ability is not the same as performance.
But if they are rooting a field up and the wind is right, you can get close enough to kick one if you have the balls to do so.

I have been busted by a hog at 200 yards though with the wind in my favor simply because he saw me sitting at the base of a tree.

I stalked up on a doe a few years ago after climbing down from the stand. I spent ~1hr with her in view the whole time. I got to ~25 yards and was about ready, then she lifted her head and it was a spike. I thought I was real smooth, sneaking up like that, until I realized it was just a dumb young buck.

My guess is that he meant avoid moving left or right as opposed to forward or backward.
